Crystal Reports files will be upgraded to Crystal 10 as well. The process involves updating all ASPEN installations – both shared and client, for all ASPEN products – ASPEN Central/Regional Office (ACO/ARO), ASPEN Complaint/Incidents Tracking System (ACTS), and ASPEN Survey Explorer (ASE). This includes standalone versions of ASE. This document provides detailed information about the many options available in the ASPEN 8.1 Installer. We have described the process and the files installed with each option, and given step-by-step illustrations of three common installations. System administrators should read through this information to gain a grasp of the different installations. For your convenience, the 8.1 Install Quick Reference, page 4, has an abbreviated list of the steps involved in the most common installations. December 2004 2 of 33 ASPEN 8.1 INSTALLATION OVERVIEW About Oracle 10g There is no need to upgrade to Oracle 10g before performing the ASPEN install. You will be able to choose between an automated or full installation of Oracle from within the ASPEN Installer. Automated Oracle Install An Automated Oracle Install is fully integrated into the ASPEN Client Upgrade, and may be selected as needed with other upgrade options. This method can save considerable time when upgrading multiple workstations. The Automated Oracle Install launches immediately following the ASPEN installation. Oracle 10g client files, including TNSNAMES.ORA and SQLNET.ORA, are installed to a standard location and configured to run from the Oracle\product\10.1.0\Client folder. Some setup is required (see Step 1: Preliminary Setup on page 4) before running the Automated Oracle Install. Full Oracle Install You may alternatively choose the Full Install for Oracle, which launches the Oracle Universal Installer after the ASPEN Installation. Use this option if circumstances require you to go through the Oracle screens and/or customize the Oracle installation. This option does not copy TNSNAMES.ORA and SQLNET.ORAyou will have to do that manually. Prior Oracle Installations The Oracle 10g upgrade does not affect previous installations of Oracle. If you have applications that require Oracle 8i or 9, you can use the Oracle Universal Installer to temporarily switch your Oracle Home so you can run those applications. ASPEN products will not work while an Oracle Home other than 10g is selected. About the ASPEN Installer The ASPEN Installer accommodates all configurations, which means there are numerous installation methods offered. The Installer is designed to minimize the time required for upgrading the most common configurations. Review Step 2: Choose your Installation Options, beginning on page 5, to determine the appropriate installation method(s) for your office environment. Once you choose the installations you need for your different situations (network, workstations, laptops), going through the actual procedures is not very time-consuming. Anyone who performs these installations must have ASPEN administrative privileges. December 2004 3 of 33 ASPEN 8.1 INSTALLATION 8.1 UPGRADE QUICK REFERENCE 8.1 Upgrade Quick Reference These are the basic steps involved in the most common installations. CAUTION: Always close all other programs before installing new software. Be sure to perform Step 1: Preliminary Setup before beginning. Copy the ASPEN Install CD contents to a central location, and add copies of your working TNSNAMES.ORA and SQLNET.ORA files to the folder. See the instructions for this in Step 1: Preliminary Setup, page 5. Upgrade ACO/ACTS shared files on the network: You will need to know the location of the current version of the shared files. ` Browse to the folder you created in Step 1, and click Setup.exe to launch ASPEN setup. ` In the Select Features window, select ASPEN Shared under the New and Custom options, and specify the products (ACO and/or ACTS) you are upgrading. ` Click Next, and follow the on-screen instructions through the remainder of the install process. Upgrade ACO/ACTS and Oracle client files on workstations: You will need to know the location of the folders that contain the ACO and/or ACTS files. ` From each workstation, any user with administrative privileges can browse to the folder created in Step 1 and launch Setup.exe. ` In the Select Features window, select ASPEN Client Upgrade (ACO and ACTS) . Note: If appropriate, you can choose to upgrade ASE files at the same time. See page 6 for a description of the ASE upgrade options. ` Click Next, and follow the on-screen instructions through the remainder of the install process. This installation is fully described in Installing ASPEN Client Upgrade, page 8. Upgrade standalone ASE on a laptop: You will need to know the location of the ASE files on the laptop. ` Insert the ASPEN 8.1 Install CD. ` Select Start | Run, browse to the CD, and select Setup.exe, then click OK. ` In the Select Features window, select ASPEN Survey Explorer (ASE). ` Click the + to expand ASPEN Survey Explorer (ASE) and select Full. If this computer does not transfer files to ACO or ACTS using direct-connect mode, de-select Oracle. ` Click Next, and f ollow the on-screen instructions through the remainder of the install process. The screens for this installation are illustrated beginning on page 11. Install ACO, ACTS, and Oracle client files on a new workstation: ` ` ` ` From the workstation, users with administrative privileges can browse to the folder created in Step 1, and launch Setup.exe. In the Select Features window, click the + next to New and Custom Installation (ACO and ACTS) to expand it. Select ASPEN Client. Click the + next to Oracle Client, and select Automated. Click Next, and follow the on-screen instructions through the remainder of the install process. This installation is fully described in Installing New and Custom Installations (ACO and ACTS) , beginning on page 16. December 2004 4 of 33 ASPEN 8.1 INSTALLATION STEP 1: PRELIMINARY SETUP Step 1: Preliminary Setup To take full advantage of the Automated Oracle Install, first copy the ASPEN Installer to a central location, and provide the Installer with a current copy of your TNSNAMES.ORA and SQLNET.ORA files. This will enable the Installer to do most of the work for you when you upgrade the individual workstations. 1 Create a new folder, named ASPEN8.1INSTALL, in a location that is accessible by all workstations to be upgraded. 2 Copy the ASPEN Install CD contents into the ASPEN8.1INSTALL folder: select all the contents of the ASPEN Install CD, press Ctrl-C to copy, then navigate to the new folder and press Ctrl-V to paste the CD contents into the new folder. 3 Locate current, working copies of your TNSNAMES.ORA and SQLNET.ORA files, and copy them into the ASPEN8.1INSTALL folder. The CD ships with placeholder copies of these files in the folder, so you will see a message asking if you want to overwrite the existing files. Say Yes. Step 2: Choose your Installation Options The first action you take each time you install an upgrade is to select your install options in the Select Features window. You will be selecting from the choices in the graphic below. We have provided detailed descriptions of how each option functions. ASPEN 8.1 Installation options The majority of users will use the first option, ASPEN Client Upgrade (ACO and ACTS), to upgrade ASPEN and Oracle client files on individual workstations. ASPEN Shared (under New and Custom Installation) upgrades shared files on the network. December 2004 5 of 33 ASPEN 8.1 INSTALLATION STEP 2: CHOOSE YOUR INSTALLATION OPTIONS ASPEN Client Upgrade (ACO and ACTS) ASPEN Client Upgrade will be the choice for all workstations that have ACO and/or ACTS clients already installed. Since the upgrade concerns only client files, it does not matter which applications (ACO or ACTS) are installed. The procedure installs the files necessary to upgrade ACO and/or ACTS clients to 8.1, and Crystal Reports client files to Crystal Reports 10. It then launches an automated version of the Oracle installer, which upgrades the Oracle 8i client to Oracle 10g. Oracle files, including TNSNAMES.ORA and SQLNET.ORA, are installed to a standard location and configured to run from the Oracle\product\10.1.0\client folder. The process takes only a few minutes, and the need for user input is minimal. This installation is described in detail, beginning on page 8. You can select ASPEN Client Upgrade plus any of the ASE install options at the same time. ASPEN Survey Explorer (ASE) Select this box when you are installing ASE in any form. You can choose it in addition to either the ASPEN Client Upgrade or one of the New and Custom Installation options. An ASE upgrade is required even for machines with standalone ASE versions that do not use Oracle, as new features are included with ASE 8.1. When you select the ASPEN Survey Explorer (ASE) check box, you need to specify the type of ASE install you want to perform: Full – for machines running standalone ASE. When you select this box, the Client, Shared and Oracle boxes are automatically selected also. Client and Shared are both required for a Full ASE installation; Oracle may be de-selected if it does not apply to your situation (see Oracle below). Client – for workstations that connect to a shared ASE database. This option installs a new ASE.EXE and supporting files (.dlls, etc.) on the workstation, but does not install the database (.mdb) or report files (.rpt). Most users will also select an Oracle upgrade when installing ASE Client. Shared – if the ASE database is located on a shared network, use this option to update the database and report files at the shared location. This does not install ASE.EXE and its supporting files. Oracle – select Oracle in addition to one of the other options (typically either Full or Client) if you want ASE to be able to transfer surveys directly to ACO and/or ACTS. If ASE is being installed on a machine that never attaches to a network, no Oracle install is needed. NOTE: if you are installing ASE in addition to the ASPEN Client Upgrade, you do not need to select Oracle here. The Client Upgrade includes the Oracle install. You have two choices in the type of Oracle install you can perform: Automated – launches the automated Oracle installer after the ASE files are copied. Oracle files, including TNSNAMES.ORA and SQLNET.ORA, are installed to a standard location and configured to run from the Oracle\product\10.1.0\Client folder. User input is minimal. Full – launches the full Oracle Universal Installer after the ASE files are copied. The full Oracle Install does not provide TNSNAMES.ORA and SQLNET.ORA files. After the Universal Installer finishes, you will need to manually copy existing TNSNAMES.ORA and SQLNET.ORA files. See the instructions for transferring these files on page 7. December 2004 6 of 33 ASPEN 8.1 INSTALLATION STEP 3: PERFORM THE INSTALLATION NOTE: It is beyond the scope of this manual to advise you on your Oracle configuration, but we have provided screenshots of the basic install windows for the full version of the Oracle Universal Installer, beginning on page 31. New and Custom Installation (ACO and ACTS) These options are used for installing ASPEN on machines/servers without previous ASPEN installations, and for updating shared files on the network. Depending on the situation, you can make a combination of selections: ASPEN Client – (ACO and/or ACTS) installs all the necessary ASPEN client files on a new workstation, and creates desktop and Start Menu icons for the selected applications. If Oracle is not installed or needs to be upgraded, select Oracle Client also. Be sure to check the boxes indicating whether you are installing ACO files, ACTS files, or both. ASPEN Shared – (ACO and/or ACTS) installs ASPEN shared files to a network location. In this case, you would not normally need to install Oracle. Be sure to check the boxes indicating whether you are installing ACO files, ACTS files, or both. Oracle Client – Select this option in conjunction with the ASPEN Client install above. You have two choices for installing the Oracle client: Automated – launches the automated Oracle installer after the ASPEN files are copied. Oracle files, including TNSNAMES.ORA and SQLNET.ORA, are installed to a standard location and configured to run from the Oracle\product\10.1.0\Client folder. User input is minimal. Full – launches the full Oracle Universal Installer after the ASPEN files are copied. The full Oracle Install does not provide TNSNAMES.ORA and SQLNET.ORA files. After the Universal Installer finishes, you will need to manually copy existing TNSNAMES.ORA and SQLNET.ORA files. See the instructions for this below. Transferring existing TNSNAMES.ORA and SQLNET.ORA If you use the Full install of Oracle, it will not create a TNSNAMES.ORA and SQLNET.ORA file. On each computer that you upgrade with the Full install, you need to copy the TNSNAMES.ORA and SQLNET.ORA files that are being used by the existing Oracle 8 installation into the new Oracle 10g folder. The standard location for the 8.1 files is C:\oracle\ora81\network\admin. If this computer does not have a previous version of Oracle, then find the files on an existing machine that has a working connection and copy them from there. Copy TNSNAMES.ORA and SQLNET.ORA to: C:\ Oracle\product\10.1.0\Client\network\admin. This will copy the connection settings to the MDSDB database from a valid, working Oracle installation. Step 3: Perform the installation Your install process will vary depending on which features you are installing. Once you have selected the type of installation, the on-screen instructions will probably be all you need. We have illustrated here a typical installation for each of the three options: December 2004 7 of 33 ASPEN 8.1 INSTALLATION STEP 3: PERFORM THE INSTALLATION I. Installing ASPEN Client Upgrade II. Installing ASPEN Survey Explorer (ASE) III. Installing a New and/or Custom Installation (ACO and ACTS) NOTE: During the install process, it takes longer to install the Crystal 10 files than other files. This is normal.
