Orchids are one of the most expensive
flowers at Absolutely Flowers, but if you’re
on a budget, you can still buy this tropical
bloom for your true love.
Owner Michelle Heidemann said they do a
lot of fresh cut orchids in vases with beautiful
greeneries to accent it.
“We create the product for you,” Heidemann said. “We can design what you want.”
Two stems of orchids can start out at $25
and go up in price depending on the type of
vase and greenery added. Orchids come in
white, pink, purple and green.
Some flowers in the mid-range price are
roses, snapdragons, larkspur, daisies and
mums.
Or get a bevy that includes a couple of different flowers from all price ranges and styles.
“I like the bouquets that have the mixture of carnations, daisies, lilies and roses,”
Heidemann said. “It’s gorgeous, you can get
a nice bouquet for $35 to $65.”

INSIDE
Mary Lewis knows her flowers. She used to
own a floral shop called Buds and Blooms in
Twin Falls for 12 years. She is the lead florist
at Fred Meyer, and she is ready to help any
man, or woman, who doesn’t know what to
buy.
“If they come in and need help,” Lewis said.
“We just walk them through. The men often
come in with that glazed look on their face.
They are my favorite customers.”
A dozen roses with no vase costs $20. A
single rose in a vase with foliage costs $14.99.
You can also make up your own bouquet from
Fred Meyers’ wide selection. Browse carnations, daisies and spider mums that can range
between $5 and $30.
If your loved one isn’t fond of flowers, or
allergic, you could also buy them a bouquet
of six heart-shaped balloons in pink, purple
and red. Cost is $6.99 for six or $1.50 for one
balloon.

Everyone thinks it’s all about roses.
It’s not true said Elizabeth Lehmann as she sorted through a delivery of flowers to her
Twin Falls shop Jan. 31. Lehmann, one of three owners of Canyon Floral, said you can still
go big, bold and beautiful with other flowers as well.
“It’s coming from you,” Lehmann said. “It’s about what it means for you.”
A formal bouquet with all blossoms and little foliage used to be the trend. Lehmann said
now people are crazy about arrangements with height, texture and a wild, organic look.
How does that translate to flowers? People are asking for garden flowers such as sunflowers, irises, mums, lilies and peonies.
“It doesn’t have to be hydrangea and an orchid to be cool,” Lehmann said.
The stores couldn’t have sold a sunflower on Valentine’s Day five years ago. Today, it’s
often requested.
Traditional Valentine’s Day colors are reds and pinks, but try thinking outside the box.
Shades of coral, orange and yellow are big this year, Lehmann said.
Expect to spend an average of $60 to $80 for a large bouquet of flowers at Canyon Floral.
Custom orders can cost $100 and up depending on the size and number of flowers.
