trusty Program Coordinator, Emily, happens to be
one of them! All it takes is a phone call and an invitation to a club meeting, and voila! Record book

For a more permanent solution I would recommend asking a reliable parent to be responsible for
record book assistance. Dedicating a few minutes at
each club meeting for record book
updates will ensure a complete book

Club Spotlight
The Saddle Club is under new management! With
a change in leadership, this
horse group is gearing up for a
big, exciting future! Tracy
Reed, who has been a leader in
the past for a small animal club,
will now be housing the Saddle
Club out of her new home,
“Summerville Stables.” Tracy’s barn on Hunter Rd.
includes a 65x132 indoor arena, an even larger outdoor arena, a round pen, boarding facilities, and
horse trails through the 40 acre wooded property.
She envisions this facility as a family friendly barn
where kids can come to learn, play, and explore in
safe and healthy environment. She’d love to offer
the space to other 4-H groups as a gathering place
for events, clinics, or contests. Her club will also
provide opportunities for kids who want to lease a
horse, learn dressage, or practice trail.
With a handful of members rearing to go, The
Saddle Club still has plenty of room for new members. This would be a great place to start for kids
considering a horse project. Call the office if you’re
interested in joining and we’ll introduce you to Tracy and The Saddle Club!
*Future newsletters will include our new “Club
Spotlight” column to highlight clubs with success
stories, special news, or who are deserving of
recognition. Contact Emily if you’d like to see a
certain club highlighted.

Summerville Event Facility
Members of the Pleasant Grove Grange Hall in
Summerville have graciously offered the use of
their space to 4-H groups at no charge. The Grange
is trying to increase membership and awareness of
the facility and decided a partnership with 4-H
could be mutually beneficial. If your club is looking for a meeting space or an exciting new location
for a special event, consider using the Grange.
Please show your gratitude by leaving the facility
clean and thanking the Grange members when you
have the chance.
Please direct your inquiries to Emily who will
schedule your events and meetings for you.
Welcome Home Georgia!
Georgia Larvik recently returned from her 4-H
International Exchange adventure in Finland. After
a summer abroad, she is transitioning back to the American way
of life. Georgia has countless stories and beautiful memories to
share with anyone curious about
her travels. She would recommend an international experience
to any other 4-H member with a
sense of adventure and curiosity about another culture. For 2014, members can apply to programs in
Australia, Costa Rica, Norway, Japan, and Costa
Rica. Applications are due Nov. 18. Call Emily or
look online at http://oregon.4h.oregonstate.edu/4hworld-citizenship-project-overview if you want
more information.
4-H SNACZ Clubs
New this year, the 4-H SNACZ clubs are now accepting ALL students in grades 4-8 in Cove, Elgin,
Imbler, North Powder and Union communities. If
you are interested in the SNACZ program please
contact program coordinator Patty Herron at 541963-1010.
Also, clubs have been busy in the second year of
the program conducting their second outreach projects: promoting students to eat more fruits and
veggies. A summary of each clubs specific project
is coming soon to the Union County SNACZ 4-H
webpage. Be sure to check them out at http://
