Your Friends at GLMS
Monday
Mondays in September will be devoted to learning the rules of our
classroom, discussing classroom safety, Stranger Danger, Fire Safety,
and road crossing. We will also be practicing our phone numbers and
addresses so it would be a great time to practice these at
home. Fireman Rob will be visiting this month to run us through his Fire
Strong Kids obstacle course and talk to us about the importance of
health and fire safety. www.firestrongkids.com
Tuesday
Tuesdays this month will include a study of our community. The children
will be involved with the construction of a mock Midway community
and will also make a map of our community including each child's

More Important News
Wednesday
Wednesdays begin our study of the solar system and we will take a
close look at our very own planet Earth. We will learn how our earth
gets its shape through earthquakes, volcanoes, glaciers and erosion.
The children will be able to make their very own active volcano in
class.
Thursday
Thursdays are our day to introduce and study books. We will introduce
the parts of a book as well as the way to respectfully handle a
book. The children will also create a storyline, write, and illustrate a
class book.
Friday
Fridays are science. We start with the simplest life form, the Protoctista
(common bread mold) and will proceed throughout the year with
each family of living things. The children will become more familiar with
the differences in living and non-living things and will be able to
recognize what makes up a living thing.
We also plan to do science experiments on Fridays and will begin by
making hypothesis about what will happen to a piece of bread left in a
bag for a period of time. Our young scientists will then be able to
observe the bread and compare their predictions.
