The 172° East orbital position offers
unique coverage spanning the Pacific
Ocean – LA to Beijing, Anchorage to
Perth. An innovative and high-capacity
satellite will be launched in 2017 at 172°
East to provide continuity and expansion
capacity at this orbital position.

Named EUTELSAT 172B, this satellite
will host three distinct payloads offering
a high degree of flexibility to customers:
- A payload in C-band of 14 physical
transponders will deliver increased
power and broader coverage to enhance
the service provided today to existing
customers via EUTELSAT 172A and tap
into new growth markets in Asia-Pacific;
- A regular Ku-band payload of 36
physical transponders will more than
double capacity at 172° East and be
connected to five improved service areas;
- An innovative High Throughput Kuband payload specifically designed for
in-flight broadband, which will feature
multiple user spots optimised to serve
densely-used Asian and trans-Pacific
flight paths and interconnected to
gateways.
This will be the first payload customised
for in-flight connectivity over the Pacific
Ocean Region and deliver an overall
throughput of 1.8 Gbps to a market
forecast to enjoy sustained growth over
the next few years.
Panasonic Avionics Corporation has
already selected the satellite as its
platform for trans-Pacific and Asian inflight broadband and live TV services for
commercial airlines.
