The Organization of Living Things

The Organization of Living Things
Three advantages to being multicellular
1. Larger size: Larger organisms are prey for
fewer predators (less likely to be eaten)
2. Longer Life: The life of the organism is
not dependent on the life of a single cell
3. Specialization: Each type of cell has a
particular job to do which makes the organism
more efficient
Tissue: a group of cells that work together
to perform a specific job
Organ: Two or more tissues working
together to perform a certain job
Organ system: a group of organs working
together to perform a specific function
Organism: anything that can perform life
processes by itself
Organisms can be unicellular or multicellular
Structure and function are related
Structure is the arrangement of parts, the shape of the
part, and the materials the parts are made of
The structure allows the part to do its job (function)
