What is CDPAP?
The Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program offers people
who are Medicaid eligible the opportunity to hire, train and supervise a
person they trust to come to their home and provide health care.
How is it different from traditional home health care?
Traditional home health care has many levels. So, for example, certain tasks may
require someone with the training of a home health aide while other tasks require
a registered nurse. In CDPAP there is only one level of employee — the personal
assistant — and since the person receiving care is the one supervising, the personal
assistant can be trained to do tasks at all levels, including medication administration.

Who is eligible for CDPAP?
The Department of Health operates the program and it is open to people of
all abilities. The local department of social services or managed long term
care plans determine eligibility and assess the level of support needed.
Can a person use CDPAP and services from Heritage Christian?
Yes, and CDPAP services are covered through the Department of Health,
which means the cost does not come out of a person’s personal resource
allotment from the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities.
