Ice creams, mango shakes, mouth watering melons! A dive in the pool, a luxurious afternoon
nap, summers are back again with its bouquet of fun, and along with it the long awaited
summer vacations too. The temptations are great for you to spend hours watching T.V. or
paying video games but with a little ingenuity and planning the summers can be transformed
into a time to stretch the mind , explore new hobbies and learn new skills.
So while you enjoy a family outing or a month long fiesta with grandparents, aunts and
cousins, here a little work for the brain, food for your thoughts.
Happy vacations as you explore and research, indulge or invent. Whatever you do enjoy it to
the fullest!
Some pointers to remember:
 Holiday Homework is a part of subject enrichment and will be assessed on the
basis of creativity and efforts of the students.
 Enhance your speaking skills and vocabulary by conversing in English with your
family and friends and reading famous fictions.
 Update yourself with current events by reading newspaper and listening to the
news daily.
 Schedule your time for activities so that there is no piling up for the last moment.
Be independent and honest in doing your work.
 Practice being a change by contributing to community by sharing your
knowledge. Do try to impart basic education to at least one person who has not
experienced the light of literacy.
 Homework is given according to roll numbers . Hindi and Sanskrit homework is
on the last page.
 Olympiad worksheets for practice will be uploaded on school website by May 27.

ENGLISH
English language has a long history of borrowing words from other languages. These borrowings can usually
be traced back to specific periods in history.
Make a colourful pictorial dictionary of twenty words of English taken from other languages (French, German
or Sanskrit). For example: Matr- mothe, Bhatr- brother .Five words from each language.
It can include professions, natural disasters, rivers , sports etc.Use A-4 size sheets to form a booklet.
MATHS
Present your work on A-4 size sheets and assemble them in a folder.
1. A Visit to Humayun’s Tomb
A group comprising 26 Indian citizens, 24 visitors from SAARC countries, 19 other foreign visitors and
10 students below 15 years of age, visit Humayun’s Tomb on April 25, 2017. The entrance fees for
visiting the monument is as follows:

Rs 10 per head for Indian citizens and visitors from SAARC countries.

US $ 5 per head for foreign visitors.

No charges for children upto 15 years.
During the visit, following behaviour was noticed among the students below 15 years of age:
a. Rashmi scribbles on the walls of the tomb.
b. Sonu helps a foreign visitor.
c. Aisha throws the wrappers and bottles in the garden.
d. Anu picks up the garbage and throws in the dustbin.
e. Neha spits in the premises.
f. Rajni shouts inside the monument
g. Ricky and Micky help in watering the plants inside the premises.
Now answer the following questions:
i. Find the exchange rate of US $1 in Indian rupee on that day.
ii. Calculate the total money that the group has to pay as entrance fees.
iii. What fraction of the total money is paid by the a) Indian citizens b) the visitors from
SAARC countries c) other foreign visitors?
iv. Students below the age of 15 years were given instructions that (+5) points will be
awarded to a student if his action is for the betterment of the monument and (-2) will be
given if the action is such that it harms the beauty of the monument. Calculate the
positive, negative and total points scored by the group of students.

Arvari river is a small river in the Indian state of Rajasthan. The 90 km long river, flows through the Alwar
District of Rajasthan. It was revived in 1990, after remaining dry for 60 years.

involved and how much time it took in the complete process”etc. Write this information in the form of an article

SCIENCE
Utilise your summer break by making your own Rain Gauge.
Material required:Take any two litre bottle of fizzy drink, two packets of modelling clay, scissors, and plastic scale.
Steps
Step 1: Cut the bottle 3/4 from the bottom.
Step 2:For rain gauge it is important that the bottom should be flat. Thus put the balls of modelling clay in the
bottom to make the bottom flat.
Step 3: Now put the second part of the bottle upside down on the opening of the bigger part of the bottle.
Step 4: Paste a scale made on cardboard on the outer side of the bottle to measure the rain in mm or you can
paste plastic scale too.
Step 5: Now place it in the centre of your garden.
Enjoy this activity and record your observation in a tabular form on an A-4 sheet. Add on to your knowledge
about the instrument by adding some information about its invention, types, advantages and limitations.
