What to do: First you colour in your own African savannah. Then colour in and cut out the animals that live on the savannah. If you read the story told by Zola, the young rhino, you can get an idea about which colours to use. Hello, I am a young White rhino called Zola. I am only half a year old. I live together with my mother. She takes very good care of me. When I am three years old, she says I will have to manage on my own, and she will have a new calf by then. Just now I am happy that she protects me against any danger. If a lion comes close I run in front of her. Then she can keep an eye on me. Yesterday, I saw a group of lionesses catch an old buffalo. Today the lion family rests with full stomachs in the shade of a tree. Read carefully and you will also get an idea about where to put the animals. Maybe you want to stick on other things like something you found in nature. You can place the savannah on a table and move the animals freely around. Use your imagination and remember that white rhinos love grass and that the black rhino prefers leaves. You can also stick the animals to the savannah, and hang it on the wall just like a poster. Guess which rhino is the Greater One horned rhino. It does not live in Africa and should be placed in the white box. Enjoy your work and have fun! Almost every day my mother and I visit the water hole to drink. Then we meet a lot of animals. I like the zebras the most. They are so nice to look at. Did you know each zebra has different stripes? Although I am not so big yet the antelopes are afraid of me. Sometimes I chase the reddish brown impalas when they come to drink. That is funny. There are many big animals here. The giraffes can eat leaves in the top of the threes! Just now the male is eating in the a far distance but, because he is five meters tall, I can still see him. The big ostrich cannot fly but they run much faster than I do. The female can be difficult to see. She is greyish brown just like the dry grass. The male looks beautiful. He has black and white feathers and a red neck and legs. There are two kinds of rhinos in Africa. The other ones are called Black rhinos but they are also grey. They eat shrubs and leaves. I only eat grass. That is why we look different. I have a broad lip to cut grass. They have a pointed lip to pick leaves. In Asia there are three different types of rhinos. The biggest one is the Greater one-horned rhino. They also have a pointed lip but only one horn. We African rhinos have two horns. I am proud of my two horns. I am afraid of people. I have been told they hunt rhinos to get our horns. The horns are used for medicine made in China. Isn’t that strange? I have just learned that rhinos are endangered. That means that we might disappear one day. I never saw my father. But I know he is living in this area. My mother has told me about him. Sometimes we find one of the piles of dung where he poohed. Then I can smell he was there. So I pooh in the same pile just to let him know that I am here. www.givskudzoo.dk
