Term 2, Week 5 (30/05/2013) Be Safe, Respectful Learners Reflection Father, we pray for the families of our school. Father, strengthen our families against the influences of the anti-life values of our society and teach us to embrace all that is good and holy so that we can be effective educators of our children. For families challenged by the breakdown of love and communication between the parents; we ask you Jesus, to be a source of healing and forgiveness. Should there be any hope of restoring the marriage relationship, we pray for a spirit of humility and openness to reconciliation. For families dealing with sickness, physical hardship, poverty, separation, substance abuse or addiction; Jesus, we plead with you to comfort and console them with your presence. Give them courage in the face of difficulties and wisdom to respond in love. Spirit of God, send forth your hope and love to bolster the family life of our school community. Protect and nourish each family unit and bring them to unity and joy. Amen. COMMUNITY CORNER Celebrating the Wonders of Wool Restorative Practices Restorative Practices focuses on building and maintaining healthy relationships by focusing on repairing the harm that is cause. The school is committed to the philosophy of separating the act from the actor or, hate the sin while loving the sinner. All stakeholders are trained to listen to each other, promote fairness and know that wrong doing can be repaired. We work on the basis that individuals are most likely to trust and cooperate with others, whether they themselves win or lose, when the process if fair. The classroom is a community of learners where those who fail to follow agreements know they will be helped to find the right way; through think time, circle time, and challenging questions. Following these strategies, they will be reintegrated into the community of learners. At this point, we are able to move forward student learning and student outcomes, as well as personally and emotionally, richer individuals. The playground provides an opportunity for the implementation of social, team and interactive skills. The children at school are learners. Mistakes are often made. However, Restorative Practices provided a process where these occasions are seen as opportunities for learning.
