Kokubunji International Association supports relations with people from abroad and
mutual understanding through voluntary activities.
Kokubunji International Association engages in a variety of activities to support
foreign residents such as regular Japanese language classes, interpretation and
translation and learning support for children of foreign origin.
Japanese language classes offer cultural experiences such as the Japanese tea
ceremony, flower arrangement, Hina Matsuri (Doll Festival) and Tanabata (Star
Festival), as well as field trips, outdoor activities and disaster drills.

You can use it at the contracted medical institutions in Tokyo
Prenatal Health Exam Expense Subsidy System for expecting mothers that who will give
a birth at her parents’ home
When Prenatal Health Exam is taken at medical institutions or maternity homes other than
Tokyo (excluding foreign countries), the city will pay for a part of the expenses.
Medical Expense Subsidy for Pregnancy Hypertension Syndrome
The city will pay for expenses when the expecting mother needs to be hospitalized for
treatment regarding high blood pressure syndrome and related illnesses, diabetes, anemia,
obstetrics bleeding and heart disease.

Those whose household income tax in the previous year was less
than 30,000 yen

Dental Exam
You will learn about pregnancy, childbirth and child raising.
Classes are offered to first-time parents.
It is a great opportunity to make friends.
Dentist will check your teeth and gums and give you advice on dental
brushing. During pregnancy, you can easily get periodontal disease
and tooth decay due to the change of hormones and irregular eating
habits caused by morning sickness.
Instructions at home for expecting mothers
A maternity nurse or a public health nurse will come to your house
and give you advice on everyday life.
You can consult them by telephone, too.

Compulsory Education in Japan consists of

There are laws to improve the working environment for pregnant women and
mothers who are taking care of their child. When you learn your pregnancy,
inform your company when you will take maternity leave and of the schedule for
prenatal health exams. You can take childcare leave and childcare time on the

Nursing Leave for Child
Parents taking care of children below school age can take a leave for nursing the child upon
request to the company. The leave entitlment is 5 days per year for 1 child and10 days per
year for more than 2 children.
Restrictions on overtime work and late-night labor
Parents taking care of a child before school age do not have to do overtime work and
late-night labor exceeding 24 hours per month and 150 hours per year upon request to the
company.
System available for mothers raising children below school age
If employees are raising a child below the age 3, the company must allow them shortening of
working hours, the flex-time system and changing time of start and end of work.
Re-Employment while Raising Children
Those who have employment insurance for a certain period of time are eligible
recipients for “unemployment benefit.”
After resignation, if you cannot work for more than 30 days due to pregnancy, childbirth
or child raising, please take the procedure for the extension of receiving period
immediately . It can be extended to a maximum of 3 years.
When child raising settles down and you start looking for work, you can receive
