Whole School Information
Welcome to Julie Mitten
We would like to officially welcome our new year 4 Learning Support Assisstant Julie Mitten. Julie is currently
working as a class LSA with Mr Lowndes in Maple Class.
Children in Need
It was great to see the children coming up with their own fundraising ideas. The children in year five who
made smoothies raised £53, children in year six who organised a cake sale raised £216 and children in year
4 who ran a sponsored silence raised £160. As a school we raised over £500 in total. Thank you all for your
support.
WPSA Christmas Shopping Evening
Thank you too all our families who supported the evening. There was a lovely atmosphere in the hall and a
fantastic range of products available to buy. A big thank you to the WPSA and in particular Olivia Ellerton for
organising the event.
Dress as you please for the Christmas Bazaar Friday 20th November
Thank you for your support and for all your donations.
Recorder Groups
A reminder that all four of our recorder groups will be performing at the Christmas Bazaar on Friday 27th
November so we would like as many of our children who play in recorder clubs to attend.
School Applications
If your child was born between 1 September 2011 and 31 August 2012, they are due to start school in the
school year beginning September 2016. The deadline for applications is 15 January 2016.
Parents/carers can apply online.
Pudsey Cake Sale!
On Friday 13th November, straight after school, four students from Pine Class (Sofia, Quilla, Millie
and Abi) hosted a bustling cake sale to raise money for Children in Need. As soon as the school
was let out of class and the parents stepped onto the school grounds, the cakes were released! This
hullabaloo of a crowd rushed over to the stall to purchase some of the many scrumptious treats.
Once they had all been sold out, the total money raised was calculated, not once but twice (just to
check)! The total was… £216! The children are beaming with pride because of what they achieved
but they couldn’t have done it without your donations! Thank you.
Quilla, Sofia, Millie and Abi.
Shooting Stars
Well done to all our stars this week: Daisy B (Ash) for having a good sense of humour,
enthusiasm and being a hard worker. Rufus (Oak) for being a delight to have in class and
for practising in his own time to help his phonics and writing. Eva W (Holly) for completing
an amazing piece of writing about her toy and reading it to some year five children. Jake (Rowan) for
working really hard on our upcoming school play. Jake has also become an expert at measuring. Elkin (Yew)
for working so hard in his maths, achieving great results and being successful. Talia (Willow) for being so
helpful around the class. Sophie (Larch) for an amazing effort with her handwriting. Callum (Elm) for
improved handwriting, for listening hard and focusing on his literacy. Catharine (Cherry) for making good
decisions and always being there to help others. Tyler (Maple) for a super effort in his writing. Yousuf
(Cedar) for showing determination in his literacy work. Thomas J (Beech) for working really hard and
demonstrating increasing confidence. Thomas also gives everything a good go, even if he finds it tricky.
Anna B (Pine) for showing enthusiasm in her maths, literacy, acting and singing. Sofia D (Sycamore) for
being a super asset to the class and also for taking on the part as ‘Kaplinsky’ (a Russian criminal) so
enthusiastically!
Sport
Weeke won last week’s netball match 10-7 against Kings Worthy! Well done to all those players
who took part. Year 1 children have enjoyed specialist gym teaching and a multi sports event at Henry
Beaufort school. Congratulations to Jess and Mae F – the girls were spotted by Squall netball team and
represented them in their first match at the weekend.
WPSA
Christmas Market Evening
Many many thanks to all of you who came along to the fabulous shopping evening on Thursday. A special
thank you to Olivia Ellerton and her team for the brilliant organisation of another successful evening.
Christmas Bazaar
Thanks to everyone who took part in the Non-Uniform Day and donated items for the Bazaar. Tickets for the
Santa’s Grotto go on sale in the playground on Monday afternoon after school and are £2.50 per child. Book
early to secure the time you want, you will also be able to purchase Raffle Tickets from Monday onwards to
save queuing on the day!
On the day itself, doors to the Bazaar will open at 3.45, if you have an early Santa slot please go directly to
the ‘Grotto Waiting Area’ outside Reception Class. There will be performances from the Choir at 4.05pm and
the Recorder Group at 4.25pm in the Main Hall. As last year, there will be Enterprise Rooms where the
children will be selling items they have made themselves in a competition to see which Year can make the
most profit. There will also be a secrets room where children can enter unaccompanied to choose and wrap a
present for a loved one. Books, Toys, Face Painting, Reindeer Food and Tombolas are just a few of the other
attractions there!
We do however still really need helpers for the day. There is a rota up inside the Reception, with gaps on
many stalls and people still needed to help clear up from 5.45pm onwards. If you can spare time we would
be very grateful.
School Disco
The children’s Christmas Disco will take place on Friday 4th December; KS1 from 5.15pm – 6.15pm and
KS2 from 6.30pm – 7.30pm. Tickets are on sale on the door for £3 and this includes drink and a snack.
Again, we need some volunteers to man each of the discos, if you have time to help please email
[email protected].
Thanks
Gill & Charlie

Year Group Information
Year R
The children have continued to immerse themselves in the life of a Gruffalo. We even had a mysterious
visitor to our classroom this week who left a terrible mess with his terrible teeth and turned out toes. The
children have engaged in measuring and data collection linked to the crazy foods in the story as well as
drawing and labelling a map of the deep dark woods!
Year1
We were lucky enough to be invited to Henry Beaufort School for an afternoon of multi-skills and gymnastics.
The behaviour of the children was a real credit to Weeke Primary and they were engaged and enthusiastic
throughout, even on the walk home in the rain! We look forward to our next session in December. In class,
we have continues our work on adjectives, nouns and verbs and we have become Time Travelling Toy
Technicians; we went through the time tunnel to investigate toys from 100 years ago.
Year 2
This week in year 2, we have been solving addition problems and measuring length. In our topic of space, we
have been thinking about the training we would need to undertake in order to become an astronaut. The
children had lots of great ideas; these included eating healthily, exercising and being able to follow and give
instructions. In preparation for the children learning about how we grow and develop, please can each child
bring in a photo of themselves as a baby, toddler and a more recent picture.
Year 3
The week began with a very exciting visit from an Iron Age workshop. We all enjoyed getting into role and
finding out about the different jobs within the Iron Age community. It is safe to say that the most popular
part of the day was the warrior training. The children were able to hit shields with a scaled down wooden
version of the warrior’s spear. In class, we have been working on creating suspense and tension in our own
versions of The Black Dog, thinking of different synonyms for fear in order to show the tension building.
Year 4
Our budding authors have been busy this week, finishing our stories based on Where the Wild Things Are.
Deserts, Wintery wonderlands, time travel, Father Christmas, aliens and princesses have all featured in our
writing this week. We have found out all about Henry Moore’s sculptures and made our own abstract
sculptures of a human form. We are looking forward to another visit from Winchester University’s science
specialists on Tuesday.
Year 5
Fractions have featured heavily this week and the children are now realising why knowing their tables is so
important. The children have explored similes and metaphors which have enriched their writing. In
Computing we have discovered algorithms and how accurate we have to be to ensure they work. Ostracons
have been made in the style of the Ancient Greeks – ostracising some of the World’s great and not so good!
Year 6
Year 6 had a fantastic trip to the Globe on Tuesday. The Shakespearian actors who worked with the children
were thoroughly impressed with their understanding of the play Macbeth and their confidence and
enthusiasm demonstrated in the drama workshops. Thank you to all those parents who helped. We have
been enjoying writing newspapers all about King Duncan’s death in Macbeth. The children are looking
forward to creating their top secret produce for the Christmas Bazaar, next Friday.
