White on adaptations in a new era: “We are living in a time of sweeping change. Throughout history, each evolution in technology has produced a revolution in products, platforms, audience viewing habits and, fortunately, new projects for Screen Actors Guild members. With change comes uncertainty, but with smart responses, we’ve always adapted to ensure that change also served to expand opportunities for our members.” White on internet piracy: “Combating the destructive practice of online theft of copyrighted motion pictures and other entertainment product is a top priority for Screen Actors Guild. Our concern is not simply for actors and other talent working today, but for the actors, directors, writers and craftspeople of the future. We will continue to publicly and visibly engage in the sustained efforts within our industry, to protect members’ livelihoods and the viability of this unique art form that represents our rich cultural heritage.” David White National Executive Director Screen Actors Guild (SAG) “Challenges and Opportunities: Actors in the Digital Age” Thursday, February 17, 2011

The Screen Actor’s guild was established in 1933, but was not accepted by the studios until 1937. SAG supported Olivia de Havilland in her landmark 1945 case, protecting actors from having their contracts extended past their legal term. Before his work with the Screen Actors Guild, White worked as an entertainment attorney and was recognized by the National Bar Association in 2010 as Entertainment, Sports & Art Law Section Attorney of the Year. Past Guild presidents include Ronald Reagan, Charlton Heston, Edward Asner, William Daniels, and most recently, Ken Howard. ¾
