Class Placement for 2017/2018
The creation of classes for September
takes much time and thought. In
determining the placement of students in
classes, we take into consideration the
following factors:
In celebration of Canada’s 150th
birthday, many activities have been
planned which will involve students, staff
of each child;
and parents. The majority of the
activities will take place May 1st to 5th
of each child;
We would like to invite parents to an
Open House on Thursday May 4th to
visit our great school and participate in
an activity with your child. The schedule balance.
is as follows:
This is a highly collaborative process
where teachers engage with one another

and have many professional conversations
Gr. 2-3

regarding the best placements for
Gr. 4-5

Class placement decisions are tentative
We would also like invite parents to

LIBRARY NEWS
FOREST OF READING
Our Chris Hadfield P.S. Book Fair was a great success. All money raised will be
used to support our Library collection here at Chris Hadfield!
In Blue Spruce and Silver Birch news... students have voted on which book was their most
favourite. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 3 selected “Stanley Goes to School”
as their Blue Spruce favourite. In Silver Birch voting, the grade 4 and 5 students
selected “Pink is for Blobfish” as their favourite. Great Reading Astros!
Students from Grades 4 and 5 will also be attending the Silver Birch Celebration at the
Powerade Centre in Brampton on May 18th.
BEING ON TIME IS A LIFE SKILL
It is very important to be on time for school. It shows that you value school and
have a positive attitude towards schoolwork. When children arrive to school on time:
They do not miss out on instruction
 They are not embarrassed by being late
 They are more relaxed and ready to learn

ARRIVE
BEFORE 9
When children are late, they become anxious, upset and it can be disruptive
to those students already at work. Please help your child(ren) get the most out of
their learning.
LET’S ALL WORK TOGETHER TO HELP REDUCE THE NUMBER OF LATE
STUDENTS AT CHRIS HADFIELD PS!
Children’s Mental Health Week at Chris Hadfield P.S. - May 15-19
Children's Mental Health Week focuses on increasing awareness of the signs of child and
youth mental health problems, decreasing stigma and understanding that help is available
Using themes such as Eat, Sleep, Move, and Positive Relationships, students will participate in
learning and activities that promote well-being throughout the week.
At the Peel District School Board, fostering student well-being and positive mental health is
just as important as creating comprehensive academic programs. Within the Peel board our
strength is in our diversity. Valuing diversity and inclusion is something that all Peel schools
encourage students and staff to do. It is not something that we pause to teach—it is
embedded in all we do and teach every day. way for us to raise awareness and reduce the
stigma surrounding mental health, helping us achieve equity for all students and staff.
Chris Hadfield P.S. puts the spotlight on Asian Heritage
In December 2001, the Senate adopted a motion proposed by Senator Vivienne
Poy to officially designate May as Asian Heritage Month in Canada. In May 2002,
the Government of Canada signed an official declaration to designate May as
Asian Heritage Month.
Throughout May, students, staff and parents from across Peel will participate in
a number of activities that promote the understanding of the many
contributions made by Asian Canadians.
