Area
Sometimes we want to know the amount of surface
inside a shape. The amount of surface inside a shape
is called the area of the shape.
One way to find the area of a shape is to count the
number of squares of a certain size that cover the
inside of the shape.
The rectangle below is covered by squares that are
1 centimeter on each side. Each square is called a
square centimeter.
