Course Description: Students will begin a more advanced study of drawing and its more advanced principles. Students will gain a greater working knowledge of texture, landscape, portrait and figure drawing all with heavy emphasis in representational traditional drawing with some exploration of art history and contemporary art practices. Course Topics: Texture practice, linear perspective, multiple point perspective, foreshortening, muscle and bone anatomy for figure drawing, portraiture, and installation and presentation processes. Materials Needed: One Folder only for art class, pencil and/or pen. Students will be supplied with sketchbooks for daily drawing and homework. All other materials will be provided. It is critical that students come to class prepared everyday with these materials! Grading: Projects 60% Four Intensive Projects each semester completed in class. Process 30% In-class assignments, worksheets, quizzes and written assignments. Homework/Participation 10% Homework readings and sketchbook assignments, Critique participation. Late Work: The following breakdown explains a day to day policy for late work. If it is… Turned in the day it is due: Opportunity for full credit. One day late: -10% from the grade you receive. Two days late: -20% from the grade you receive. Three days late: -30% from the grade you receive. Four days or later: -50% from the grade you receive. Missing Assignments: 0% in Infinite Campus until turned in. Make-Up Work: If a student misses class for any reason, he/she will be required to make up the work missed in class. He/she will have as many days as missed to complete the make up work (ex. two days absent = two days to make up work). If a student is absent for a quiz or test, he/she must make up the test the day they return, during either study hall or after school. If a student is absent when an assignment, lab, or project is due, the assignment is due the day they return. Failure to do any of the above will result in a late work penalty. Re-working: Students will have the option to re-do any project or in class exercise at anytime Discipline: Failure to follow the classroom guidelines of showing respect, being responsible, and rejoicing always will result in the following consequences: warning, counsel, phone call to parents, and referral to principal, detention.
