Dear credit union member,
Thanks to all of our members who
attended our Annual Meeting
held on February 9th. Over 250
people attended the meeting,
and 74 people won cash prizes
ranging from $20 to $100. We
believe our 72 years of service is
reason to celebrate, and we are
grateful to all of our members
who have made it possible. We
appreciate you joining in our
celebration.
We would like to offer our
congratulations to Deborah Gibby
and Tony Thomas who were
re-elected to our board of
directors. Thanks to them and all
of our board members for their
dedication and service. Without
our volunteer board, it would be
impossible for us to serve you.
Sincerely,
Brian Akin

ATM Safety Tips
Follow these precautions to stay safe when making ATM withdrawals:
1. Avoid facilities in dark or remote places.
Park in a well-lit area.
2. Be alert and aware of your surroundings.
If you see people lurking around the ATM
(i.e., in a parked car or at a pay phone), go
somewhere else.
3. At a drive-up facility, keep your doors
locked and all passenger windows
closed.
4. Keep your card in a safe place. Keep
your PIN safe. Don’t give it to anyone.
5. Minimize your time spent at a
machine. Have your card ready and
all transactions prepared when you
approach an ATM.
6. If you sense another person crowding
you or attempting to view your
transaction, cancel the transaction and
leave the location. Guard against others
observing your PIN entry.
The credit union will be closed in observance
of the following holidays:
7. Refrain from displaying your cash at
the ATM. As soon as your transaction
is complete, place your money in your
purse or wallet. Count the cash later in
the safety of your car or home. Be sure
to take your ATM receipt with you.
8. Look at the ATM before using it. If it
doesn’t look right, don’t use it. If an ATM
has any unusual signage, don’t use it.
9. If you are followed after making a
transaction, go to the nearest public
area where people are located.
10. Don’t fall for “con games.” Watch out for
people who try to “help” you at an ATM.
If anyone asks you to withdraw money
for any reason, leave the area at once.
11. Check your statements to be sure there
are no unusual withdrawals.
12. Report all crimes to the credit union and
law enforcement immediately.

Help Us Celebrate Youth!
Savings Sleuth - Solve the Mystery
What kid wouldn’t want to throw on a trench coat, dust off an
old magnifying glass and slap on a play mustache to become a
detective for a day? Children everywhere are intrigued by the thrill
of mysteries and the detectives that solve them. Little do these
kids know they also have the ability to tap into detective mode by
investigating ways to save and becoming a credit union savings
sleuth during the month of April.

Membership and Joint Ownership of Accounts at North Georgia CU
One of the things that sets North Georgia Credit
Union apart from other financial institutions is that our
members are owners of the credit union. A member
may set up a joint account with anyone the member
chooses, regardless of whether that person is a
member. Joint ownership is not membership. Mere
joint ownership does not necessarily entitle the joint
owner to membership privileges such as borrowing
from the credit union, serving on the credit union
board or committees, or voting at the credit union
annual meeting. If a joint account holder is within the
field of membership, he or she may choose to become
a member of the credit union by signing up, paying the
membership fee and being approved for membership
in the usual manner.
When members join the credit union, they
purchase one “share” of the credit union for $5.00

and pay a one-time $5.00 membership fee. When
they do this, they are conferred the full benefits of
membership in North Georgia Credit Union.
If a person is a joint owner of a member’s account at
North Georgia Credit Union, they will have full access
to the funds as described on the account card, unless
there are specific restrictions on the account. However,
they will not be considered a member and will not
have membership privileges because they have not
purchased their share.
We welcome new members to our credit union
family! If you are a joint owner of an account at
NGCU, you may be eligible for membership in
our credit union. For more information, call (706)
886-1441 (Main Office), (706) 356-7001 (Lavonia
Branch), or (706) 376-6961 (Hartwell Branch).
