WHITEHALL PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER OCTOBER 2016 HARVEST FESTIVAL I would like to thank everybody in our school community for their most generous donations of food for our Harvest Festival held on Friday 30th September. The stage was filled with food which went to the Centre Project – a charity in Leicester City that supports the homeless. Thank you once again for your incredible generosity. CHARITY SUPPORT On Friday 23rd September we held Jeans for Genes Day and raised £280.00 where pupils could attend school in non uniform wearing jeans if possible. Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped us raise money for this charity. HALLOWEEN FAMILY DISCO The `Friends of Whitehall’ are organising a `Halloween Family Disco’ for Thursday 3rd November 5.30 – 7.00pm. The cost is £2 per ticket for children. All children in Year 3 or under must be accompanied by an adult and an adult ticket is £1. Refreshments will be available on the night. It will be a fun evening and we look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. Further details will be sent out shortly including when the tickets are on sale. BLACK HISTORY MONTH To celebrate Black History Month 2016 we are holding a series of workshops on Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26th October on the theme of `Africa – My Story’. The workshops will enable our pupils to explore African and Caribbean story, dance and song. Our pupils will be working with `Bigfoot Education’ who help to facilitate these highly memorable experiences for our pupils. SPORTS NEWS The Autumn term is now in ‘full swing’ again and the various clubs have been running since the beginning of term. All clubs have been well supported and I have been particularly pleased with the basketball group on Mondays which now numbers over 20 in attendance. The Year 6 football tournament has started again at Judgemeadow School and after week 1 we have played three matches, won 1 and drawn 2. This week is week 2 of the tournament and hopefully our team will continue their success. We welcome our new Sports Apprentice, Miss Vardy, who will be working with Mrs Wynne, Mr Ruperalia and me in assisting with the delivery of PE in the school and also helping with clubs after school. It is hoped that she will soon be able to organise some clubs herself to add to the clubs already in existence. We look forward to her involvement in our sporting activities. Mike Bull NUT FREE SCHOOL We would like to remind parents that we are a Nut Free School. This is to protect the children who have nut allergies. Children should not bring food into school that contain nuts. This includes packed lunches, class parties and birthday treats. Also, boxes of chocolate like Roses contain nuts. CONTACT DETAILS If you have changed your contact details such as mobile phone number, can you please inform the school office as soon as possible. It is important we have up to date contact information. In recent weeks, we have had difficulty contacting some parents as their details were not up to date.
