RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
Dissertation Research
Saving The Market From Itself: Bailouts, Nationalizations, & the Politics of Financial
Intervention
 Research explains divergent state responses to financial crises in advanced capitalist
states by examining the effects of relatively networked or atomized private governance
networks in the financial sector on the interests and political clout of healthy and failing
financial firms. Stronger private governance networks create both greater capacity for
privately-funded rescues as well as greater political clout to win favorable terms for state
rescues.
 Assembled and analyzed a database of state responses to bank failures in advanced
capitalist states from 1974 to present.
 Performed case-study analysis of the politics of responses to the 2007-2009 financial
crisis in the United States, United Kingdom, and Germany.
 Interviewed policymakers, regulators, and business leaders in the United States, United
Kingdom, and Germany
 Conducted archival research of public records and media accounts in the United States,
United Kingdom, and Germany.

coverage and initial academic assessments
