Stronger private governance networks create both greater capacity for privately-funded rescues as well as greater political clout to win favorable terms for state rescues. Assembled and analyzed a database of state responses to bank failures in advanced capitalist states from 1974 to present. Performed case-study analysis of the politics of responses to the 2007-2009 financial crisis in the United States, United Kingdom, and Germany. Interviewed policymakers, regulators, and business leaders in the United States, United Kingdom, and Germany Conducted archival research of public records and media accounts in the United States, United Kingdom, and Germany.
