Rodrigo Borgia: Pope Alexander VI Grade Level: First Year Spanish, Post Secondary Subject: World Language-­‐Spanish Overview Objectives Standards Materials Procedure Evaluation This lesson will teach students about the ideas and controversies of Rodrigo Borgia as Pope Alexander VI Students will be able to argue the good accomplishments and the controversial aspects of the life of Rodrigo Borgia in a well thought out essay. MA7.5.1 Investigate and report on objects from other content area MA7.5.2 Integrate content area concepts and skills through relevant activities • Chalk and Chalkboard • Pre planned presentation regarding Borgia • Internet Access • Word Processor • A free Mindomo Account 1. Begin class with the PowerPoint presentation of Rodrigo Borgia, highlighting his biographical information, rise to power, and controversies in the papacy. Included are relevant events during the time period to help better understand Borgia’s actions. (20 minutes) 2. Lead a discussion, playing devil’s advocate, with the class regarding the information outlined in the presentation, including any questions from the students. (15 minutes) 3. Assign the essay portion of the evaluation and briefly explain how to use the Mindomo interface as a useful writing tool. Students will create a Mind Map using the application Mindomo as a pre-­‐writing outline. A 2-­‐page essay will be turned in at a later time that argues the good and bad aspects of Borgia as Pope.
