Application of the epoxy floor behind the bar and in the service area began today. It should be completed by the weekend. Installation of the wood trim on the ceiling is underway. Installation of the new roof tile is just about completed. There is a portion of the "existing" roof that required repair. The tile on that portion of the roof has been removed to make the repair and will be replaced next week. Installation of the retaining wall was scheduled to begin last Friday. Due to the heavy rain on Friday the wall is being installed this week. The new cart path will be built once the wall is complete. Budget and Completion Date The budget remains within the "Not To Exceed" limit approved by the Board. Below are 2 more positive changes you can make this year that will add years to your life and life to your years. Learn How to Play an Instrument Learn how to make beautiful music this year! Whether you played the piano as a kid and are ready to reacquaint yourself with its keys or were given a guitar years ago but never learned how to play, playing an instrument is an incredibly rewarding hobby that can be both creative and stimulating for the brain. (Not to mention that you earn serious cool points with your friends when you bust out your musical skills at the next party). Where to begin: Go to a local music store that offers lessons or surf the internet to get started. There are tons of free resources on how to play any instrument. Learn to Say No Saying no may seem hard to do, but with practice these two little letters become easier and easier to say. And vowing to say them more often - when you’re faced with something that you really don’t want to do or don’t have time for - can be completely liberating. With practice saying n-o, you can have more time for you! Where to begin: Pick one activity you feel obligated to do but don’t like doing, such as going to a birthday party of a friend's cousins party, and tell them “No, I cannot make it.” You may feel guilty at first, but stay firm but polite. With practice, saying no becomes easier and easier (and no this doesn’t apply to some things that we all dislike but have to do like going to the dentist). On behalf of your fitness team dedicated to helping you make a positive impact this year, have a wonderful weekend and we'll see you first thing in the morning. Angie 13 From your Golf Professional - Jim Nuchereno This past Saturday Lexington held its Monthly Mixer with a theme of Wine and Dine. Ideal weather conditions welcomed members playing in the four person scramble format with wine and light hors d’oeuvres stations out on the course. The wines featured several different U.S. wine regions throughout the country. After play all the contestants got together in the Vista Room for a complimentary raffle and sit down dinner while the golf Pros announced the results of the winners of the three flights and par three challenges. We thank you all for joining us as a good time was had by all. Congratulations to the winners of each flight: Chardonnay Flight: Curt/Helene Pillsbury and Don/Meg Matlock 54.4, Pinot Grigio Flight: Harold/Joyce Wade and Ted/Joyce Szawara 55.5, Cabernet Flight: John/Judith Wood and Ray/Violet Bozek 58.8. We are all looking forward to Lexington Country Club’s fourth major tournament of the season, The Couples Championship, to be held next week on Wednesday and Thursday, January 27 & 28. While we are happy to say that we have 200+ golfers signed-up, we still have openings should you wish to join us for this fun and yet competitive major event. A continental breakfast will be available prior to the start of the two morning shotguns from 7 am to 7:45 am with a sit down dinner immediately after play on Thursday evening. Keep in mind that those participating in the tournament will not be charged play points and in addition to all the prizes, players will be playing for GM Cup points. GM Cup point leaders, as of The Member-Member, are displayed outside the Golf Shop in the shadow box. The top leaders thus far are Tom Whalley in the Men’s Division with 73 total points and Ann Ulrich in the Ladies Division with 63 points. The new February golf calendars are now available in the Golf Shop - In it you’ll see that Lexington’s Super Demo Day will be held on Friday, February 5, from 10 am to 3 pm at Lexington’s Driving Range. As in past year’s some of golf’s top companies will be here at our range with all their new 2016 golf clubs for you to try out. If you’re worried about our golf club prices, don’t be, we will meet or beat anybody’s price! Chef Scott and Lauri will also have a hamburger and hot dog cookout at the range for you to enjoy to add to the festive day. And please don’t forget if you want to sell any of your used clubs, we will once again have an exhibit where you can drop off any clubs you wish to sell. Just bring them to the range by 9:45 am and we’ll mark down any information about your clubs and price them. Who knows, someone may buy them! You’ll also see that our Annual Men’s and Ladies’ Match Play tournaments will be taking place throughout the month along with Lexington’s Annual Barbara’s Friends Charity event on Sunday, February 21. As in January, throughout the month, crossover tee times will be available from 7 am to 9 am, 11:22 am to 1:07 pm and 9 hole play available from 3:30 pm and after. The Golf Shop would like to thank The Titleist Golf Company for visiting Lexington Country Club on January 6. They met personally with approximately 265 members, according to all the signatures, recommending to each member which ball would be most likely right for their game. After all was said and done they gave out well over a thousand golf balls valued at over $3500.00!!! Wow! Thanks again Titleist. We all look forward to seeing you next year. We see that there are still members with private carts who have not registered their cart in the Golf Shop. If you are one of them please stop by the shop ASAP and register your cart. For those members who own a golf cart for the purpose of using it only on Lexington’s property you too need to register your cart and have it tagged for 2016. We also want to point out that when parking your cart in Lexington’s parking lot it is important to park it in an official car parking space and NOT on painted lines between handicap parking and regular parking spaces. We thank you in advance for your cooperation. This past week Mr. Cork Lott eagled #3 using a putter for his third shot!! Congratulations! GOLF TIP If you are truly serious about lowering your scores, it’s no secret that you should work more on your short game: chipping, putting, pitching and greenside bunkers. Keep in mind that a good short game can cover-up a multitude of sins from the long game. 14 Residential/Common Grounds - Peter Wensel Palm tree trimming has continued this week in Wedgewood. The weed & feed application has been completed throughout Lake Village and has begun in Wedgwood. Brown patches will start to appear in lawns as crabgrass dies off in the colder temperatures. Crews have completed debris clean-up from this past weekend’s storms. Your patience has been appreciated while crews have been bracing fallen trees. Golf Course - Laurie Frutchey The golf course crew has been busy cleaning up after the weekend storms. New trees are being planted as the old ones are being removed. The greens are going a little off colored from the cold and will green up in a few days. Liquid fertilizer and wetting agent will be applied this week to all greens and tees to help speed up the process. Next week we will be topdressing all tee and greens. Landscaping or A&E Requests? The violent storms on Friday, Jan. 15, threatened the entire event, when the huge tents, where the event was to be held, were destroyed. However the Ranch, stepped up on very short notice and allowed us to use their facility on Jan. 16. Thanks to Al Kinkle, Lexington C.C. and the Lee County Community, the evening ended up a huge success for Cancer Research and tons of fun for the 325 generous guests. On behalf of the Ladies 9 Hole Golf Association, thank you to Jim Nuchereno and Danny Loucks for conducting the Golf Rules Workshop last Thursday for our members. Everyone who attended agreed the information provided by our knowledgeable Golf Pros to be interesting and helpful. Special thanks to Al Kinkle for providing the delicious pizza prepared by Chef Scott and his staff plus Lauri Meyer, Claudio Gonzalez and wait staff. You all make planning an event like this so easy. Good afternoon Al, Thank you so much for helping us stage a fantastic planning retreat yesterday. Your team did an outstanding job making us feel welcome and taking care of our meeting needs. I’ve had the opportunity to work with many of the clubs in our area and want you to know that when we have the pleasure of working with Lexington, we are treated as friends, not customers. That means a lot. Thanks again! Thursday, February 11th 6:15 pm Island Club All Southmont Cove residents are welcome! Bring: A dish to share Your own plates and utensils/napkins Whatever you would like to drink Have a good time visiting old friends and meeting new neighbors. Great chance for new residents to meet their new community. Grill is available but because of time constraints not recommended - your choice. Questions?
