Atlanta is a city filled with tall green pines, a bustling
airport, peaches, and oh, just 17,000 DECA members
from around the globe!
DECA ICDC took place from May 2-7. On the first day
on May 2 when some arrived, the DECA Dash 5K took
place in order to raise awareness and funds for the
Muscular Dystrophy Association. The theme was
superheroes and you could see capes, colorful tutus, and
painted faces!
From the headquarters of CNN to the World of CocaCola, DECA members sure had a BLAST at ICDC! CNN
headquarters is located centrally within downtown
Atlanta, perfect for the close proximity to the hotels our
members stayed at. Once you enter, flags from around
the world can be viewed in the fast-moving environment.
The main visitor area is convenient, being filled with a
variety of restaurants, open to the public! If you want,
you can even go on a tour and go on the world’s longest
and tallest free-standing escalator! Yes, I just said the
WORLD’S largest AND tallest free-standing escalator.
The visitor really gets the inside scoop on the ins and
outs of how the broadcast is ultimately projected. Chris
Nation from Tennessee thought his tour of CNN was
“large… and cool to see how it takes place…behind the
scenes.” You can follow Chris on Twitter at
@nationofchris Overall, the CNN headquarter experience
was definitely worth going to! Plus, you could have even
gotten to see a live broadcast and one of the reporters!
Whether you call it pop or soda, the world can all unite at
the World of Coca-Cola factory. Visitors go on a selfguided tour through different rooms learning about where
it originated, the science that went into creating it, and
the building even has a room dedicated to advertising
throughout the years! (For all you advertising geeks, like
myself!) Alexis Gillner liked that the tour “…shows
history on how it began to how it was formed.” The tour
starts off with a six minute heart-felt movie showing the
audience how even though we come from different,
backgrounds, Coca-Cola connects us. The final stop
before the fun gift shop is the tasting room, everyone’s
FAVORITE! This room is solely dedicated to visitors
being able to taste all the Coca-Cola products from
countries around the world! Also in this room is an
above-ground conveyer belt bringing glass bottles of
Coca-Cola to visitors finishing the tour! Visiting The
World of Coca-Cola is a once-in-a-lifetime experience
every person should go to! Plus, you can ask the bear to
throw up the DECA Diamond sign!

Community Service in District II!
Stay in touch with your officers
New Braunfels High School DECA member and District
II Vice President, Dylan Price, participated in some
community service this month with his chapter. “This
past weekend our New Braunfels High School DECA
chapter volunteered at the local food bank. It was a
perfect opportunity for us to contribute something back
to our community. We volunteered for a couple hours
after school and just helped them with whatever they
needed. This included unpacking, stocking, and rotating
foods. It was a great experience and I felt like it really
brought our DECA chapter closer together. All it took
was a couple hours out of our day to do something for
someone else, which is what I believe every District II
DECA Chapter should be willing to do. Volunteering for
community service projects are perfects ways to spread
the word about DECA and show the community that we
care.”
