Film Submission Guidelines
- Montreal SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Welcome filmmakers! Please find below all the information you need to submit your
film(s) to us for the 33rd Edition of the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, currently
scheduled to run from July 8-26, 2015. Should you require more information, however,

● Sender will be responsible for all shipping costs for screener.
● Please be sure to package your submission with care, bubble-wrap or Bubble-lined
envelopes are recommended.
● Do not use “fibre-padded” envelopes for shipping, as the fibre gets onto the DVDs and
may damage your material and our players. The Festival reserves the right to not review
submissions sent in fibre-padded envelopes.
Please ensure to write: "This film DVD is for festival/cultural use only and has NO
commercial value. It should enter as a duty free DVD. NO commercial transaction has
taken place." on the waybill to avoid customs charges. Just For Laughs will not be
responsible for any custom fees.
No entry fee required.
It is mandatory that your submission be well identified with:
● The title of your film
● The exact length of the film
● Name of the film’s director
● Contact name (if different from director)

(You can also provide us this info by filling out our Film Information Form and including
it with your film).

Selection
Please include the following information with your submission to help us in our
reviewing process:
● Country of film’s origin
● Year of production (while Just for Laughs does not have an official cut-off for
submissions, we generally try to keep within the past year or two – exceptions may be
made for regional premieres.)
● Previous screenings / Awards won
● Premiere status (Would Just For Laughs have a World, Canadian, or Montreal
Premiere of your film?).
● Any other interesting facts about your film you think we should know…
(You can also provide us this info by filling out our Film Information Form.)
● We will contact you only if your film is selected
● The Festival does not return submission copies.

The number of screenings, days/times and venue is at the sole discretion of the
Festival.

Format
Depending on the venue, films are screened in the filmmakers’ preferred formats
(35mm, 16mm, HDCam, DigiBeta, BetaSP, MiniDV, DVCam, Blu-Ray and DCP) or are
compiled onto a screening compilation in a format determined at the sole
discretion of the Festival.

The Festival will cover the return
The following materials will be required in addition to the information requested
at time of submission:
● Screening Agreement filled out, signed and returned (supplied by festival)
● Photo(s)/Stills of your film for website and possible catalogue inclusion
● Film synopsis – 125 words for web (approx.) and 25 words for catalogue (approx.)
● Website
● Press Kits (the more we have, the easier it will be to promote your film)
● 3-4 Screener copies of your film on DVD (the easier it is for us to show your film
to journalists, the more likely they are to write about it).
● Postcards/handbills/pins etc.
