Cell Processes A webquest

Cell Processes
A webquest by Ms. G
Cell Web-quest instructions
• Follow along with this powerpoint at your own pace.
• Go to the links assigned and perform the tasks.
• Your worksheet contains questions to be answered for each activity. When you
come to a “Question” and a number, write the answer to that question on your
worksheet. If you would like to use a Google doc, you may do so and share it
with me so that I can grade it.
• ***This webquest may force you to open new tabs and keep other ones open at
the same time; if you are unsure how to do this, ask us!
ONE MORE THING!!!!
• Ms. Gibson can’t look at motion on a screen. PLEASE do not ask her to look at a
video to help you. Ask another classmate, or- hey- when in doubt, watch the
video again, or pause it to understand the information!
• All good? Cool- let’s go.
Review: What is a cell?
• A cell is the smallest organic unit which can perform all life processes.
• Worksheet: question #1:
• Name 3 processes that a living thing must do in order to be considered “alive”.
Single Celled Organisms Examples:
• Amoeba-fresh-water eukaryotic organism
• Euglena- fresh-water photosynthetic organism
• Malaria- parasite
• Bacteria- prokaryotic organism
Nutrition in single-celled organisms
• https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7IN7HTWzLs
• Or, go to youtube and look up the video Nutrition in amoeba Mocomi Kids
• Watch the video and answer the questions on your worksheet at the end, or as
you go along:
Question 2: What do amoeba eat?
Question 3: From your brain: does this make it a carnivore, and herbivore, or an
omnivore?
Question 4: What is the name of the arm-like structure that an amoeba uses to get
food?
Nutrition in amoeba, continued
• Question 5: From your brain or your notes: What comprises (makes up) the
pseudopod? (What parts of the cell?)
• Question 6: in your own words, describe how the amoeba uses the pseudopodia
to get food.
• Question 7: What new organelle is formed temporarily around the food?
• Question 8: what does this organelle contain?
• Question 8: Where do the nutrients go? (be specific)
Almost done!
• Question 9: What happens to the waste?
• NOTE! You might have found it curious that the amoeba has a cell wall. Some
non-plant organisms DO have a cell wall but it is made of a material called chitin
(CHY-tin).
• (But it’s still true that members of the animal kingdom don’t have cell walls- we’re
still all good there)

• Instructions: Start at paragraph 5 and read paragraph 5 and 6.
• Question: What are the three methods of movement discussed in paragraph 5
and 6?
