We are continuing to move
forward with the City of Chapala
in having an approved long term
contract for treated water. The
State of Jalisco ( new CEA
Director) has formally stated that
this is a local problem and that
legal conflict must be avoided.
He has clearly endorsed our
position. A large majority of
Chapala Councilmen are in our
camp. The Chapala Water
Commission is on our side. The
mayor (Presidente) has told us
that we should not worry. His
chief advisor, Councilman Sr.
Soto, has repeatedly told us that
it will happen soon. But, we still
do not have water flowing and we
still do not have a signed contract
in hand. Esther and I meet with
mayor again on May 29th.
Hopefully this will be the final
meeting and will produce a
signed agreement.

On a brighter subject, we are
making great progress on our
planned renovations for all of our
club’s lavatories. The remote
restroom by the number “4”
green is completed and
functional. It only needs a bit of
outside landscaping to finish.
We will now start with the
renovation of the ladies’ and
men’s clubhouse facilities. This
is estimated to take about twelve
weeks to complete both rooms.
While this will be a bit
inconvenient for the next several
months, we feel that it will be
worth it and be great
improvement for our Club.
Golf Course Improvements
If you’ve noticed, we also have
made a lot of progress in
improving our golf course.
- We have completed all of the
repairs to the cart paths that our
budget will allow this year. This
represents over 30% of the cart
paths in total and has fixed the
absolutely worse sections. With a
new budget next year, we will
tackle the next third and over
three years have the entire course
redone.
- We have added back our trap on
hole #2/11, which we feel
improves the playability of this
hole and restores the hole to its
original design.
- We have restored our entire
irrigation system to better
functionality by replacing defective
heads and leveling all. We ask
that you please be careful not to
run over the heads with your carts
as this is what causes uneven
irrigation. We are also using
scientific moisture measurements
to better control green watering
and thereby green health.
- We have kept our greens and
tee boxes in excellent condition
under very stressful conditions.
We have kept our fairways
healthy, but a bit firm on the
edges. We were also able to plug
and fertilize all the fairways just in
time for the rains to begin.
- We are cleaning up the brush
areas adjacent to our course that
are unsightly and create nesting
areas for nasty things to live.
- We are in the process of
creating a better practice area by
leveling and clearing the brush
area next to driving range. This
will be followed by developing a
chipping area.
accountabilities.
I would like to point out that all
this fine work and our continued
move towards more
professionalism in golf course
operations is attributable to the
efforts and leadership of Jimmy
Park and John Cearnal, our Golf
and Greens co-chairs. Along
with Connie Walton, House
Chair and Marilyn Edwards,
Social Chair in the Clubhouse, I
believe we are making
noticeable improvements in the
appearance and operations of
our Club.

- We have sold off our gas carts,
replaced them with electric carts
and have implemented a
rotational usage and preventive
maintenance program.
- We have cleaned up the proshop and improved inventory.
- We are focused on training our
staff and targeting skill
development. We have developed
real job descriptions with
performance metrics and personal

One of the men complains
that the ladies will slow them
down and says he is going to
ask if they can play through.
He goes halfway to the ladies
and turns back.
The other man asked what
was wrong. The man said, "I
can't go up there that's my
wife and my mistress."
So the other man says he
will go. He goes halfway and
comes back. His partner
asked what happened and
the man replied, "Small
world, huh?"
With his last moments on
earth, an old man is replaying
his favorite rounds of golf in
his head. He remembers
when he was first married,
how he came home from the
course one day to the most
wonderful chocolate-chip
cookies. It'd been years since
his wife baked them for him,
but as he lay there, gasping
for each breath, he was sure
he could smell those cookies.
Crawling out of bed, he
dragged himself down the
stairs and into the kitchen
where he finds--oh, joy!--his
wife with a big platter of his
favorite, freshly baked
cookies.
With his last bit of strength,
he is slowly reaching out for
one when she slaps his hand.
"Don't touch those!" she
orders. "They're for the
funeral!"

Fun golf facts!
* It takes longer to learn good golf than it does brain surgery. On the other hand, you seldom get to ride
around on a cart, drink beer, eat hot dogs and fart while performing brain surgery.
* Golf balls are like eggs. They're white. They're sold by the dozen and a week later you have to buy
more.
* A pro-shop gets its name from the fact that you have to have the income of a professional golfer to buy
anything in there.
* It's amazing how a golfer who never helps out around the house will replace his divots, repair his ball
marks, and rake his sand traps.
* When you stop to think about it, did you ever notice that it's a lot easier to get up at 6:00 a.m. to play
golf than at 10:00 to go to church?
* Golf is by far the ultimate love/hate relationship: Sometimes it seems as though your cup runneth and
moveth over.
* A good drive on the 18th hole has stopped many a golfer from giving up the game.
* Water hazards are no walk in the park for fish, turtles, frogs or gators either.
* Golf is the perfect thing to do on Sunday because you always end up praying a lot.
* A good golf partner is one who's always slightly worse than you.
* That rake by the sand trap is there for golfers who feel guilty about skipping out on lawn work.
* If there's a big storm rolling in, you'll be in the middle of having the game of your life.
* If your opponent has trouble remembering whether he shot a six or a seven, he probably shot an eight.
* The game of golf is 90% mental and 10% mental.
* Since bad shots come in groups of three, a fourth bad shot is actually the beginning of the next group
of three.
* When you look up and cause an awful shot, you will always look down again at exactly the moment when
you ought to start watching the ball if you ever want to see it again.
* Any change works for a maximum of 3 holes and a minimum of not at all.
* No matter how bad you are playing, it is always possible to play worse.
* Never keep more than 300 separate thoughts in your mind during your swing.
* When your shot has to carry over a water hazard, you can either hit one more club or two more balls.
* A golf match is a test of your skill against your opponent's luck.
* It's surprisingly easy to hole a 50-foot putt when you lie 10.
* Counting on your opponent to inform you when he breaks a rule is like expecting him to make fun of his
own haircut.
