It’s a fact: An ongoing countdown of things you may not know about NEWESD 101,
the region’s schools, people, history and geography.
Fact: The area behind the NEWESD 101 office building was once the site of the
world’s tallest self-supporting radio tower. In 1949, half of the 800-foot KHQ structure
broke off in a storm packing 85 mph winds. The tower was later replaced by a large new
guyed tower that remained until 1993.
Today, a portion of the former transmitter site is used for NEWESD 101 parking.
