ATHLETE GUIDE September 24,2016 Jamestown Rhode Races Jamestown Rhode Races Message from the Race Directors WelcometotheJamestownRhodeRaces The Jamestown Half Marathon has long been a favorite of ours. With its sweeping views of the Pell Bridge and Narragansett Bay, to its quaint windmills, small ponds and inlets, farms and gorgeous coves – there is not one part of the course that isn’t stunning. This year’s race is in honor of Officer Ryan Bourque of the Jamestown Police Department. Officer Bourque tragically lost his life when he was hit by a wrong way driver on the way home from a shift. A portion of every entry fee will be donated to the Memorial Foundation set up in his name to restore the Jamestown Playground. Additionally, we have added a 5k race so that more participants can run in his memory. We have made a few changes this year in hopes of improving this race a bit more for our participants. The half marathon and 5k have different start locations but the same finish line. The half marathon will start at 7am near the toll booth on Fort Getty Rd and the 5k will start at the TOP of Fort Getty Rd at 7:15am. Participants in the 5k should begin walking up Fort Getty Rd to be ready for the start but not to line up as to impede the half marathon runners. ALL. Parking will be at Fort Getty. Please plan on arriving early as there will likely be some congestion getting in and out of Fort Getty Rd. Please drive slowly and with caution as there will be pedestrians in the road. If you are hoping to hit a certain finish time goal, keep an eye out for our pacers, provided by Rhode Island Road Runners – they will be wearing singlets with their goal finish time. We would also like to thank the over 200 volunteers as well as local police, fire and security teams that help us execute this event. They help us provide a safe and enjoyable race and we are indebted to them. We hope that you enjoy this breath-taking half marathon and 5k in Jamestown.
