FAQ What's the main reason for getting a SoteriaDrive policy? Your SoteriaDrive Policy rates your car insurance premiums based on the way you drive. Most car insurance policies just use area’s known as rating factors. These usually include information such as age groups, years of experience, where your vehicle is kept overnight etc. What happens when I take out a SoteriaDrive policy? When you take out your policy, your broker will let you know if you need to have a SoteriaDrive black box installed or whether you can use our SoteriaDrive Smartphone APP. You need to use the APP each time you drive to make sure you get the best possible score for your driving. How much does the SoteriaDrive black box or APP cost? The cost of your black box or Smartphone APP is covered within your insurance premium. You may be charged a higher cancellation fee if a SoteriaDrive black box has been installed and you cancel your policy before it is due to expire. Can I earn a No Claims Discount? Yes, you can. Can I earn No Claims Discount as well as safe driving discount? Your Broker/Insurer will apply your No Claims Discount and Your Safe Driving Discount separately, so if you are a safe driver with no claims on your policy, you could see even bigger savings. How Much of My Data Allowance Will SoteriaDrive Use? The app uses very little data; the average policy holder will use roughly 10MB per month vs. a standard data allowance of around 150MB per month. You can avoid using your data allowance by disabling your mobile data whilst using the app and making sure you have an active Wi-Fi connection. This will mean a delay in receiving feedback as we will not receive data as and when you complete trips, but will not affect your score. How do you know about my driving style? Both the SoteriaDrive black box and Smartphone APP uses data from satellites to work out detailed information about your driving style. We have an extensive and detailed database of the speed limits on roads across the UK and Europe. Your actual speed is reported by the black box or APP and we compare it with this data. We also use your data to establish the time of day you’re driving, whether we believe you are stuck in congestion, if the route you’re taking is familiar. What aspects of my driving do you monitor? We monitor: Speeding Night time driving Smoothness Road Usage Confidence Unfamiliar Driving Reckless Events In addition, we may use the data to make sure your car is usually kept at the address you said it would be. We may also monitor additional factors for research and product enhancement reasons. These won’t affect your score unless we tell you we are changing the area’s we look at. Are there any times that you can’t track or monitor my car or driving? Yes, both the Black box and Smartphone APP use GPS systems and transmit the data they record using a mobile telecommunications network. There will be locations throughout the country where the GPS signal is not stable. These will often be known area’s where mobile phone or sat nav signals are troublesome. There are also cases such as tunnels and underground car parks where GPS zones are not available. In some cases with the SoteriaDrive APP, you may have a GPS signal but no mobile or Wi-Fi signal. In these instances we will still receive and score your data once your device is able to re-connect to your Wi-Fi or mobile network. Can I see the data from my SoteriaDrive black box or Smartphone APP? Yes, you can see the trips you’ve made through the history screen on your SoteriaDrive APP. Can you monitor me if I’m not driving in the UK? We can, but for data purity, we will not score your trips abroad. Try before you buy mode. You can use SoteriaDrive as a ‘Try before you buy’ allowing you to see where we would place your score in a range of 0-100 (0 being very poor, 100 being excellent). To do this, all you need to do is download the App, check and agree to the terms and conditions and press record, it’s that simple… You’ll need to complete 200 miles before we can give you a score, this is to ensure we give you a score that is truly reflective of your driving, allowing for both good and bad days. Is there anything else I need to do when I have my black box installed or register my APP? You will need to bring up to three documents with you to your installation of a SoteriaDrive Black box: Proof of your No Claims Discount (if applicable) The Vehicle Registration Document (V5/log book) for the vehicle that has been insured. If you have recently purchased the vehicle, the New Keeper Supplement is acceptable. Your counterpart (paper) driving license, and the licenses of any additional drivers named on the policy. If you’re using a SoteriaDrive Smartphone APP, then you will need to upload pictures of these documents to us via the Documents section of your SoteriaDrive APP. What happens if I forget my documents? If you’re having a SoteriaDrive Black box fitted, you may be charged a £45 missed appointment fee if you fail to provide your documents as we will not authorise the engineer to install the device. You must provide your documents or your policy may be cancelled, you should speak to your Broker for further information. What changes when I’ve purchased a policy? Once you’ve purchased a policy you will need to register your app using you policy reference number and vehicle registration number. It’s really easy to do; whilst on the home screen, select Link A Policy and then fill in your details to register. There are a few extra T’s and C’s you need to review and agree to. All we need you to do now is upload copies of your driving documentation. These are the documents your broker would have made you aware of. If you’re still unsure, take a look at the section titled When you’re ready, select Document Upload from the side menu; the app will allow you take pictures of your documents and will send them directly to your broker for them to review.
