Story Development: Key Questions
Use these questions to guide the brainstorming process around your next video.
1. Why is this story important to tell?
2. Who is your target audience?
3. What do you aim to achieve with this video? What is the goal and outcome you want to manifest
once this video is complete?
4. Where will the filming take place? List potential locations.
5. Who will you interview to add context to your story? Who will serve as the best interviewer to ask
the questions to your subjects?
Story Arc Worksheet
The story arc is a framework that helps you define the emotional journey a viewer experiences when they
watch your video. The steps below are a guide to help you craft your story in any content that you create. Of
course, your videos do not need to follow this story arc, but consider this a starting point when making your
video plan.
FILL OUT THIS QUESTIONNAIRE TO START PLANNING YOUR STORY ARC:
EXPOSITION - How does your video begin? What is the problem that you are addressing?
RISING ACTION - How can you provide more context around the problem? How can you build suspense?
CLIMAX - What is the emotional “high” point of the video? What is the big revelation?
FALLING ACTION - How will you elaborate on what you’ve revealed in your climax?
RESOLUTION - How does the video end? What is the “feel good” moment? What is the moral of the story?
CALL-TO-ACTION - What would you like your viewer to do now that they’ve been inspired by your video?
