Lunch Questions and Answers When Do I Need to Send a Lunch Ticket to School? Question: What time is lunch? Answer: The lunch hour is from 11:45-12:50. Question: My child forgot his/her lunch at home or I want to bring a hot lunch at 11:45. I need to drop it off at school; can I just take it to my child’s classroom? Answer: No. All visitors (including parents) must check in with the office. This is for the safety of all children. Please come to the office and drop off the lunch. The secretary will call your child down to pick up their lunch. Question: How much do lunch tickets cost? Answer: $1.50 each or $15.00 for a sheet of 10 lunch tickets. Question: Do I need to send a lunch ticket for Fun Lunch? Answer: No, a lunch ticket is not required. Question: My child is going on a field trip that will be returning to the school at 12pm. Do I need a lunch ticket? Answer: No, your child does not need a lunch ticket. Question: Does my child need a lunch ticket when s/he is signed up for an activity that takes place in the gym such as Intramurals, (Grades 4-6) or Skipping Club (Grades 1-3)? Answer: Yes. The students will eat lunch inside the classroom and then proceed to the gym. The lunch supervisor takes attendance and also keeps track of which students are going outside as usual and those staying inside. Question: Does my child need a lunch ticket for Cross Country or Track and Field? Answer: Yes. Your child will be delaying their lunch to participate in these events, but at 12:25, the participants come inside to eat their lunch. A lunch supervisor stays inside with the students while they are eating. Question: Does my child need a lunch ticket for Card Club, Makerspace, Choir practice or any other activities during lunch hour? Answer: Yes. The students will eat their lunches in the classroom before these activities and, they will be supervised by their classroom Lunch Supervisor. Question: The teacher has asked my child to assist with a project over the lunch hour (posters, social studies, music, etc.). Does s/he need to bring a lunch ticket? Answer: Yes. The students will eat their lunches in the classroom before these activities, and they will be supervised by their classroom Lunch Supervisor. Question: What time should my child return to the school if s/he comes home for lunch? Answer: No earlier than 12:35. If your child consistently comes to school earlier, s/he will be considered under our Lunch Program umbrella, needing outside supervision and will be asked to bring a lunch ticket the next school day. A Gentle Reminder note will be sent home with your child. Question: I’m not sure whether or not to send a lunch ticket, what should I do? Answer: Send a lunch ticket. There’s absolutely no harm in sending one, as Lunch Supervisors will not ask for a lunch ticket for Parent-Council sponsored events such as Fun Lunch and Field Trips. The lunch ticket will be returned home for future use. Question: What if my child has an appointment during lunch hour? If I see my child outside during lunch recess, can I just come and get him/her? Answer: No. For the safety of the children, we do not release any child directly to parents or guardians approaching from outside. Please go through the front door into the office and the secretary will phone the lunch coordinator outside. All lunch supervisors carry walkie talkies to promptly locate any child. We will find your child and send him/her to the office to meet you.
