Chapter 3 Lesson 8
Math 8 Topic: y = mx + b format 2 What you have to leave
here knowing:
DO IT:
1) Write in y = mx + b form. State the slope and the y –
intercept. 2y = 4x - 10
1) Use algebraic
manipulation to get a line
in the form y = mx + b.
2) Find the slope of the line connecting (-1, 3) and (1, 7).
2) Reinforce if two lines
are parallel or share the
same y - intercept.
3) Graph the line 3y = -3x + 12 below.
SELECT HOMEWORK ANTZAS:
We go over all of the homework starting with question 7.
TODAY’S LESSON
Before you can graph any line, you MUST make sure the line is in y = mx + b format.
Here are three examples we can graph below:
y - 2x = 1
4y – x = -12
2y = -6x
TEAM WORK:
1) Use the graph below to graph these three lines. Before you graph them but after
you get them in y = mx + b form, predict which ones will be parallel. Confirm it with
your graph.
line a: 2y - x = 6
!
line b: y = x - 2
!
line c: y + 4x = -8
INDIVIDUAL WORK:
1) Graph these three lines below:
State the slope and y – intercept of the line 3y + 2x = 9. Graph the line below.
THE HAPPY RECAP
What is the format you MUST put every line in when you go to graph it?
