After you have set up a carton and after the carton has been picked, you
have the option of reorganizing its contents and its placement within a
shipment before shipping. The Carton Reorganization program (P4620)
not only enables you to reorganize a carton's contents, but also enables
you to create and organize new cartons.
To define shipping cartons, navigate to the Container and Carton Codes
program (P46091) on the Warehouse Management Setup menu (G4641)
3
On the Work With Container and Carton Codes form click the Add button.
4
On the Container and Carton Codes Revisions form we create a container
using the following container information:
The container code we use is C1.
The dimension information we use is 36 width, 36 height and 36 depth.
The unit of measure is inches.
5
On the Cartonization tab we leave the default information as is -- the
container is available and shippable.
The tolerance range is 85 – 90 %. If the content of the carton does not
reach the minimum percent of 85%, the system recommends a smaller
carton.
If the content of the carton exceeds maximum percent of 90%, the system
recommends a larger carton.
Click the Ship Notice tab.
On the Ship Notice tab, you can specify information such as:
Packaging code that complies with EDI standards, package terms, and
specifying the agency responsible for packaging.
You can also activate these options:
6
Activate the Expendable Container option to specify that the container is
expendable and therefore can incur a sales order charge.
Activate the Container Piece option to indicate that this container is part of
a parent container.
Activate the Create Sales Order Charge option to have the system create
a charge on the sales order for cartons.
Click the License Plate tab
On the License Plate tab, you specify license plate information such as:
UOM and Container Process Groups. The system uses container process
groups to determine which movement instructions to use for putaway,
picking, and replenishment.
7
Click the Associated Item tab
On the Associated Item tab you specify an item that is associated with this
container.
When you specify an item number, the system creates a relationship
between the full container and empty container for tracking purposes in the
Container Management system.
8
Click the OK button to save your carton detail information.
Close the application.
Now that we have defined our carton. We can now set up the location
profile to recommend cartons when an item is picked from the location.
9
To specify whether a location recommends cartons, navigate to the
Location Profile program (P46020) on the Warehouse Management Setup
menu (G4641)
10
On the Work with Location Profiles form, locate and select the location that
you want to specify carton recommendations.
11
On the Location Profile Revisions form select the Recommend Ctrn
(carton) option to have the system recommend shipping cartons when
picking items from this location.
12
Click the OK button to save your changes.
