Pro D Days
Tomorrow, Fri. Feb. 24 is a Province Wide Pro D Day. Each year schools in the Coquitlam School District
have 6 Pro D Days:
The dates of 3 of the Pro D Day are chosen by the district – all schools in our district participate
(This year Sept. 23, Oct. 21 and Apr. 21)
The dates of 2 of the Pro D Days are chosen by each individual school – only that school participates.
(This year ours are Nov. 1 and May 19)
The date of 1 of the Pro D Days is chosen by the Province – all schools in the Province participate (This
year is Feb. 24)

In addition to the usual 6 Pro D Days the Province has added an additional day to provide time for
teachers to plan to implement and assess the revised curriculum. That Curriculum Training Day was:
Nov. 14
As a parent I am aware of the impact on parents when their kids are not in school. However, as an
educator and Administrator I know first-hand the importance of these days to allow teachers and school
district staff to collaborate to improve our professional practice. I feel strongly that public education
needs to be held accountable to our commitment to meeting the needs of all students however I also
feel that in order to do that we need to have time to plan and collaborate on how best to do that. These
days are crucial to maintaining the high standard we have come to expect in public education.
I wish all of our teacher and CUPE staff a positive and rewarding day tomorrow! They deserve it!

Got GRIFS?
Wondering how you can feel more connected to the Glenayre Community? How about purchasing a
Glenayre T-shirt? Beginning next week we will start taking orders for our 2017 Glenayre T-shirt. The
shirt is a dark navy blue with white lettering and promotes our GRIFs program. What’s a GRIF?
GRIFS stands for
Growing to be Responsible
Respectful
Inclusive
Focus
Safety
These are 5 virtues that we promote here at Glenayre and that also conveniently reflect our school
mascot The Griffin!
We recognize students displaying these virtues by awarding them a GRIF which is a ticket that goes into
a draw. Each week we draw names and announce them. Students then receive a small prize.
Feel free to ask your child about GRIFS to see if they can name what the letters stand for.
If you want to order a Glenayre T-shirt see the ordering information below:
