PSHE Our new theme is ‘My friends
Written addition, mental and written subtraction- Pupils will learn to add 3-digit numbers using expanded
addition, count up to & subtract two-digit numbers from 3-digit numbers; use addition to check subtraction.
Pupils will learn how to use compact addition to add amounts of money. They will also learn to subtract
pairs of 3-digit numbers using decomposition methods & inverse operation. Pupils will be encouraged to
identify and describe patterns.
Measures and data- Pupils will measure and convert lengths in centimetres and metres and weight in
kilograms and grams. They will estimate and measure objects, record in tables and represent and interpret
data in bar charts. Learning will be extended to measure lengths and convert between metres, centimetres
and millimetres. Pupils will measure weight and convert between kg and g to one decimal place. Pupils will
be encouraged to make sensible estimations.
Fractions and decimals: Pupils will learn to count in quarters and halves, understand concept of fractions
and begin to understand eighths. Pupils will find fractions with a total of 1. In this area of learning will be
extended to enable pupils to identify equivalent fractions (1/2s , 1/3s, 1/4s, 1/6s, 1/8s, 1/10s, and 1/12s).
Pupils will reduce fractions to their simplest form and identify equivalent fractions and decimals as well as
adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominators up to 2 wholes.
Place Value and decimals: Pupils will understand place value in 3-digit numbers, including money. Pupils
will learn mental multiplication and division of numbers by 10 and 100 and understand the effect and
understand that division is the inverse of multiplication. Year 4: Multiply and divide by 10 and 100 (whole
answers or with 1dp). Multiply multiples of 10 and 100 by 1-digit numbers. Add and subtract 0.1 and 1 to
and from numbers with one decimal place. Use negative numbers in context of temperature and place
negative numbers on a number line.
French Pupils will be introduced to a
French story & learn how to re-tell it in
French. They will move on to count up to 20
re-capping numbers 1-10. Pupils will learn
about places in France and how to explain
where they live. Pupils will compare how
the French celebrate Easter to their own
experiences.
Pupils will continue with our topic of the Romans, investigating Roman mosaics, discovering where
they have been found and what they depict. Pupils will understand the role of archaeologists in
uncovering remains and how the past can be pieced together. Pupils will research the impact of the
Roman army and significant Romans who influenced not only Rome but the Roman Empire. They will
begin to understand how many of these actions or objects have survived over 2000 years. Pupils will
learn the location of a number of different towns and cities across Britain that have historical Roman
significance.
English
This half term pupils will explore ‘The Day I Swapped my Dad for Two
Goldfish’ by Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean. Pupils will act out & swap story
lines. They will learn about adverbial phrases to include in their own writing.
Pupils will learn to write recounts using past tense and first person,
remembering the importance of chronological order. Pupils will write a new
version of ‘The Diary of a Killer Cat’, by Anne Fine, using recount features and
complex sentences.
Pupils will go on to look at traditional poems where they will explore the poems
of Robert Louis Stevenson and create a class poem using rhyming couplets.
Pupils will explore the poem ‘Windy Nights’ and learn it by heart. This
resource will be used to revise verb tenses and learn about prepositions. a As a
class they will produce a poetry book with contributions from each child.

relationships with friends and family. It also
begins to focus on more sensitive issues
such as body changes & personal hygiene.
We will also have a visit from the NSPCC
leading an assembly on ‘Speak out. Stay
safe.’
Spring 2

mosaic designs and use these
to create their own patterns
and selection of materials.
Pupils will then identify an
object that has a specific
purpose and use mosaics to
decorate it. This will involve
them in a product design &
making process.

with our P.E specialists.

gymnastics.
Science
Pupils will identify and investigate the position and significance of
latitude, longitude, the equator, the northern hemisphere and the southern hemisphere and
their relevance to our daily lives Pupils will locate the three continents of North and South
America and Europe, and explore their similarities & differences. Pupils will use their
knowledge of major cities within the United Kingdom to make comparisons and choices about
where to live or work in the future.
Religious Education Pupils will consider the question ‘What is good
about ‘Good Friday’?’ continuing our Christianity class focus. Pupils
will learn to recall key events in the Easter story and understand why
Jesus’ crucifixion symbolises hope for Christians. Our Collective
Worship theme is ‘Forgiveness’.
Pupils will continue with our focus on ‘Forces and Magnets’.
The main focus of magnets will help pupils understand the
properties of magnets and how these properties can be used
within our daily lives. Key vocabulary will be introduced to
support their hypothesis and summarising of evidence.
Pupils will carry out this focus through observations and
scientific enquiry. They will be encouraged to work
scientifically: asking relevant questions and using different
types of scientific enquiries to answer them. Pupils will
make systematic and careful observations, and where
appropriate, take accurate measurements, record findings
using tables and labelled diagrams and use results to draw
conclusions.
I.C.T
Pupils will complete the unit called ‘We are Toy Designers.’ Pupils will
find out about inputs and outputs, play their toy design, design their toy in
the programme Scratch, program their toy simulation, test and improve
their toy simulation and then present their toy idea.
Music
Pupils will continue their weekly sessions with our music specialist Mark
Walker who will continue to develop their musical skills in the recorder
and singing, music reading and performance.
