WHO ARE THE FRIENDS OF
FIGURE SKATING?
Since its launch in 2001, Friends of Figure Skating (FOFS) has
provided invaluable financial support to U.S. Figure Skating.
The contributions made by FOFS members are instrumental
in introducing young men and women across the country
to the sport of figure skating, and also helping to develop
and support future champions. Of every dollar given, $.90
benefit U.S. Figure Skating programs like the Basic Skills
Program, which provides students with a solid skill foundation and confidence on the ice. The remaining $.10 is
allocated to the Memorial Fund, which awards more than
$250,000 in grants and scholarships annually.
FOFS members receive exclusive access to U.S. Figure Skating athletes, gear and experiences, including opportunities
to meet other fans who love the sport. The most popular
benefit is access to the member breakfasts, held each year
at Skate America and the U.S. Figure Skating Championships.
The member breakfasts allow members to interact with many
of their favorite skaters, take pictures, collect autographs and
reconnect with skating friends from across the country.
At premium membership levels, benefits include VIP status

U.S. Figure Skating is the national governing body for the
sport of figure skating in the United States, as recognized by
the United States Olympic Committee and the International
Skating Union. U.S. Figure Skating is composed of more than
1,425 clubs and programs representing more than 172,000
members. U.S. Figure Skating is charged with the development of the sport on all levels within the United States.
Responsibilities include developing and supporting athletes,
training and appointing officials, sanctioning events and exhibitions and establishing the rules and guidelines by which the
sport is governed.

GIVING AND THE IRS
Contributions to Friends of Figure Skating and U.S. Figure
Skating are tax deductible as allowed under federal and state
tax regulations. The Internal Revenue Code (IRC)
provides that the amount of the donation less the
fair market value of benefits received is charitable
and deductible. Members may also elect to waive
all benefits, which will provide a tax deduction
equal to 100 percent of the donation.
Friends of Figure Skating members will
receive a statement of fair market value
of benefits with their membership card
annually.
