ALLERGIES
At Fairview, we have a
number of students who are
severely allergic to nuts,
peanuts, nut products and
several other food groups.
We also have students who
are severely
allergic to bee or wasp stings. Please ensure
that your child's teacher and the office staff are
made aware of their condition. If your child
requires medication, please obtain a green
medical form from the office which will need to
be completed by your family doctor.
We would also like to remind you to ensure that
the medication you provide the school is current
and will not expire within the school year (if it will
please make a note so that you may be able to
refresh it as needed. Fairview is a nut-safe
aschool. Students are not to bring any nut
products and in particular, peanut butter and
nutella) to school.
CLASS PLACEMENTS
Teachers and Administration
met in late spring to create
classes for this school year.
Please be aware that a great
deal of time and thought went
into this process. Many
factors were considered such as: viable
instructional groups, maturity and work habits,
matching of learning or teaching style, ratio of
boys to girls and ESL and Special Education
Support. The importance of any one of these
factors varies from student to student.
Each individual student‟s progress and
placement have been carefully considered.
Please remember that current student class
placements are tentative and could change
during re-organization in order for us to align
with the Ontario Ministry of Education‟s primary
and junior limits on class sizes.
This year, we have seen an increased number
of combined grade classes across the school.
Please be reassured that the students in a
combined class are not repeating curriculum,
and will be responsible for learning the same
material as their peers in a single-grade setting.
In order to comply with Ministry class-size
guidelines, most schools run successful
combined grade classrooms, and most Ontario
students experience one during their school
career. Your understanding is much
appreciated! Please call 905 – 277 -0281 and
ask for Ms. McNeely if you have any questions
or concerns regarding your child‟s placement.
CHARACTER COUNTS!
September Theme:
The 3 B’s:
―Be Kind, Be Fair,
Be Safe‖
For the month of September, Fairview staff will
be on the look-out for students who are
consistently "Being Kind, Fair and Safe” to
others. Students will be selected by their
classroom teachers and recognized at our first
Student Recognition Assembly on Friday,
th
September 30 at 9:30 a.m. in our school
gymnasium. Parents are most
welcome to attend.
SETTLEMENT WORKER
The Multicultural, Settlement
and Education Partnership
helps newcomer parents
and students successfully
integrate into their school
and community. MSEP
provides settlement services to newcomer
families from Fairview. Fairview is very lucky
to have Ms. Julie Lee as our Settlement Worker.
She can be reached at (905) 609-4119.
RECOGNIZING STUDENT
BIRTHDAYS
Rather than sending treats such
as cake or donuts, please
consider sending in small things
for the students in the class; fancy
pencils or erasers are always fun
to get. We recognize all of our
students with birthday wishes at our monthly
assemblies. By asking that food not be sent in,
we are helping to create a safe environment for
all of our students especially for those with food
allergies. Unfortunately, food brought in by
parents or students will not be distributed.
Please call 905-277-0281 and speak to Mrs.
Hatton (Vice-Principal) or Ms. McNeely
(Principal) if you have any questions or concerns
regarding this policy. Thank you for considering
“loot bags” instead of edible treats for the class.
BUSSING AT FAIRVIEW
Bussing is provided for students
who live more than the following
distances by road, path or walkway from the
school.
Kindergarten – Gr.1
Grades 2-4
Grade 5+

If Courtesy Bus seats become available,
application forms will be made available in the
main office early in October. Below are two
ways that parents can directly access bus
information throughout the year:
Geoquery Website - http://businfo.stopr.ca
This website allows parents to login and find
their child‟s transportation information by
following these instructions:
 type in the website address
 click “student login”
 enter your child‟s OEN number (at the
top of your Ontario Report Card),
street/house number, school and grade
 click “login”
VOLUNTEERING AT FAIRVIEW
Parents play an important role
in the development and
education of their children and
in the success of the school
community. At Fairview, we welcome and
encourage the participation of parents and
community members, and are grateful for the
many hours our volunteers contribute throughout
the school year.
To volunteer at our school, you must complete a
short interview and a criminal record check. A
police background check is required for all
school volunteers in Ontario. Even if you want to
accompany your child on a field trip, you should
complete this background check.
Once you have completed the process, you are
on file with the Peel District School Board as
being a school volunteer. All returning
volunteers will be mailed an Offence Declaration
Form that must be filled out and returned to the
board office each year. You will not be able to
volunteer with the Peel board until you have
returned this form
If you have any questions about criminal record
checks or the offence declaration form, please
call the board office at 905-890-1010 ext. 2488.
Parents are also welcome to attend our Tea &
Talk session on Tuesday, September 13th,
2016 at 2:30 p.m. in the Fairview Library.
PARENT COUNCIL
We welcome all parents and
ask you to consider joining our
Parent Council this year.
Elections will be held during the
our first regular meeting of our parent council on
st

position on the council, please stop by the office
and pick up a nomination form on Monday,
th
September 12 , and return to Mrs. Hatton by
Friday, September 16th. Thank you for your
support!
SAFE ARRIVAL
Parents, please help us to
keep your children safe by
following our school safety rules
and discussing them with your
family:

Parents who use the Kiss „N‟ Ride in
the mornings, please do not arrive until
8:45 a.m. as there is no teacher
supervision until that time. When using
the Kiss and Ride, please remember to
stay in your car, put it in Park, and wait
for a staff member in an orange vest to
assist your child in exiting the car on the
passenger side only.

It's great to see so many families walk
to and from school each day. Please
remember to stay on sidewalks and
follow instructions from the crossing
guards at the crosswalks.

Remember to wait to enter the
crosswalk until the crossing guard is at
the centre of the crosswalk and has
ensured that all traffic has stopped.
They will then signal for you to cross

Use of the path on private property at
the back of the school is at your own
risk. It may be unsafe, as it is not
supervised and will not receive any type
of maintenance.

Staff supervise the schoolyard from
3:20 – 3:35 p.m. Any students who
have not been picked up at that time
will be escorted to the office, to call
home (and will meet their parent/caregiver there)
AGENDAS AND
SCHOOL FORMS
As a school, we provide a number
of optional materials and activities
for students. One of these
materials is our “Agenda”. The
agenda supports students in
developing their organizational skills and it is
also an effective communication tool between
parents and teachers.
We will have agenda that can be purchased for
$7.00, and we ask for exact change or a
cheque made out to Fairview Public School.
Should you not wish to purchase an agenda,
your child will be provided with a plain notebook
which he/she will be able to use as his/her
agenda. Parents will be informed as soon as
agendas are available for purchase.

STUDENT INSURANCE
Protect your kids—and your
finances
The Peel District School Board
does not provide accident
insurance coverage for student
injuries that occur on school property or during
school activities including extracurricular sports.
Each year, many of our families spend
thousands of dollars when their children are
injured at school, on field trips, while
participating in non-school activities, or at home.
If a student is injured, parent(s)/guardian(s) are
responsible for any costs not covered by
provincial health care or their employer‟s health
plan. Please check with your provider regarding
your coverage.
The provincial health care system does not
cover costs which are commonly related to
accidents including dental work, ambulance
fees, casts and crutches, and physiotherapy. All
of these are covered by Reliable Life‟s student
accident insurance plan.
It is strongly recommended that all families
consider this coverage, especially if your child
participates in extracurricular activities. Annual
plans, which provide 24 hours a day, 365 days a
year coverage, range from $13.50 to $32 per
year. Through the application only you can be
covered for the school day only as low as $8 per
year. Family rates for three or more children are
available.
The insurance agreement is between you and
Reliable Life Insurance Company.
You can apply for coverage through paper
application
or
online
at
www.insuremykids.com. For more information
call Reliable Life Insurance Company toll free at
1-800-463-KIDS (5437).

ONTARIO STUDENT RECORD
Understanding your child’s
Ontario Student Record
The Ontario Student Record
(OSR) is an ongoing,
confidential record of a student‟s
education progress. Authorized
by the Education Act and
protected by the Freedom of
Information Act and Protection
of Privacy Act, an OSR is established for each
student enrolled in an Ontario elementary or
secondary school. The record is housed at the
student‟s current school and moves with the
student as they transition from one school to the
next. If a student leaves Peel to attend another
school in Ontario, the OSR is forwarded to the
new school upon request. If the OSR is not
requested or the student leaves Ontario, the
OSR is housed in the last Peel school that the
student attended.
The OSR contains familiar documents that
parents can view at any given time. OSR
contents include:
 biographical data
 documentation file, containing (if
applicable): verification of a custody
arrangement, change-of-name order,
placements decisions, suspension
letters, psycho-educational assessment



report, identification and placement
decision letters, and registration forms
information concerning special health
conditions

school only) – the cumulative record of a
student‟s successful completion of
secondary school courses

TRANSLATIONS
Every student, and parents or guardians of
students under 18 years of age have the right to
examine the student‟s OSR and receive a copy
of its contents. Supervisory officers, school
administration and teachers may also access a
student‟s OSR for the purpose of improving the
instruction of the student. Written permission is
requested for any outside agency or personnel
to access the OSR.
Contact your school principal for details of the
procedure to review your child‟s OSR.
If you would like to learn more about your child‟s
OSR, visit the Ontario Ministry of Education web

Getting your questions answered
If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions
about your child's education, or about education in
general, anyone with the Peel board is happy to help.
Here are some of the people who can help you:


If you
have specific questions or concerns about
the education of your son or daughter, the
first person to talk to is your child's teacher.
If possible, arrange a personal interview
with the teacher to discuss your concerns
and attempt to resolve the matter. Your
child's teacher or principal can also give you
more information about specific strategies
being used to monitor your child's progress.
If you need extra help, or have more
general questions, your school principal is
there to assist. Your school principal can
help if you have been unable to resolve the
issue with your child's teacher. All
curriculum material is available in your
child's school.

If you still have unanswered questions or
concerns, talk to your superintendent of
education.
 If you have general questions about
curriculum, call Curriculum and
Instruction Support Services at 905890-1010 ext. 2559.
 If you have questions about special
education programs or services,
contact Special Education Support
Services at 905-890-1010 ext. 2345.
 Of course, your local school trustee is
elected to represent your interests
and is always ready to hear and
discuss your suggestions or concerns.
If you don't know the name of your
trustee, check the 'Meet your Trustee'
section of the board's website at
www.peelschools.org.
If you still have questions, please email [email protected] or call Communication &
Community Relations Support Services at 905-890-1010 or 1-800-668-1146 ext. 2809.
Pizza, Subway and Booster Juice Days coming soon! Watch for more
