Greenwood Kinder Buzz Sarjapur Preschool January, 2017 Communique from Center Head Childhood is not a race, to see how quickly a child can read and write. Childhood is a small window of time to learn and develop at a pace which is right for each individual child. Early education can play a critical role during this important developmental period. The last two decades in particular have produced many new practices and principles for use in the classroom with young children, to enrich the learning environment. Keeping pace with the time, incorporating the positive changes is what has kept us going. Your support and contribution towards our school is no less. It feels good when you come back to us with siblings and friends with the same trust and faith that you placed in us. Parent resource corner TO ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD’S PHYSICAL (GROSS AND FINE MOTOR) DEVELOPMENT Collect safe toys and equipment to help your child develop large muscles. You can set up empty water bottleslike bowling pins, and let your child use a soft ball to “bowl.” Join your child in active play. You can play “catch the ball” with your child, or set up a simple obstacle course. Give your child opportunities to cut with scissors from magazines or shapes for a matching game. Teacher Resource corner It is very important to set rules for a preschool classroom (3-5 yrs.), as it helps, in maintaining a healthy classroom environment, where learning can take place. 1. One thing that works well in a preschool classroom is a registration corner (self-attendance). Initially, the teacher writes their names each in a different colour. Once the year progressed they learn to recognize their name, teacher writes the names in the same colour for a challenge. 2. Assigning classroom jobs gives the students a sense of ownership with their classroom. Examples... Snack leader Line leader Book helper Weather and calendar helper Jobs can be rotated on a weekly basis. One classroom skill that pre-schoolers may struggle with is walking in a line. Example… (Song) Hands at the back… here we go… Walking down the corridor... Nice and slow. When standing in the front of our line, teacher would say to students "One, two, three.....eyes on me." They would respond "One, two.....eyes on you." The goal is to get them all looking forward. Words of wisdom A lesson plan is a teacher's detailed description of the course of instruction for anindividual lesson. A daily lesson plan is developed by a teacher to guide class instruction. The first thing a teacher must do is decide on the lesson plan's focus. The teacher creates one idea or question they want the students to explore or answer. Next, the teacher creates classroom activities that correlate with the established idea or question. Classroom humour During Show and Tell, Miss Johnson showed pictures of different birds. “Miraya,” she said, “What kind of bird does you like the best?” She thought for a while. “Fried chicken,” she replied. My little sister is so smart. She’s only in Nursery, and she can spell her name backwards and forwards Really? What’s her name? “Anna”… GREENWOOD HIGH Sarjapur Road: No.8-14, Chikkawadayarapura, Near Heggondahalli, Gunjur Post, Varthur Sarjapur Road, Bangalore- 560087 Phone : +91 80 22010500 Admissions and Other Info : [email protected] www.greenwoodhigh.edu.in
