Building a Legacy One
Bruin at a Time!
Star Students:
ENGLISH/Mrs. Wiley
Second semester is here and we are
back and ready to roll! This semester will
bring a change for students, as they will begin
with our online vocabulary book. Students
will have several opportunities to practice their
words and play games. We will continue
working on our writing and our short and long
responses. We will also take NWEA and
begin our review for ISTEP in February. Please email me with any questions, and
check the homework link on the school
webpage to stay up-to-date with assignments
in all classes.
SCIENCE/Mrs. Dionne
_____________________
This nine weeks in Science we will be
learning all about our solar system, Chapter 6
Earth, Moon and Sun and Chapter 7, The Solar
System. Remember pdfs of the chapters can be
found on Schoology. Also on Schoology will
be many video assignments, please make sure
your child has a pair of
headphones. Our Space
unit is vocabulary heavy
and we will have quizzes
frequently. All words are
posted and organized on
Quizlet. Did you know the
kids can study AND take
practice quizzes on
Quizlet? Before Christmas Break, all of the
students created teaching videos for topics that
needed reviewed. If you haven't watched them
yet, find our Youtube channel DionneScience6. There is also a link to our channel on
Schoology. More videos will be created and
added when we move to studying the planets
in Chapter 7.

SOCIAL STUDIES/Mr. Sullivan
All roads lead to Rome in the 3rd 9
weeks! Alexander the Great's empire had split
and Aeneas has taken the sword of Troy to the
hills of Latium...plus the howling lineage of
Romulus and Remus...Rome is born! Greece
lives on, but with a few polytheistic changes...Zeus to Jupiter...Rome will prove to be the
beginning of Europe as we know it today!
Social Studies will take a look at another birth...that of Christianity!!! Thanks
Constantine! Republic, Christianity, and
Written Laws...sound familiar???
We'll finish off Rome...literally...with
Barbaric invasion!!! Let us not forget the Vikings of the north! The empire may split and
fall, but the ideas and influences live on here
in the West!
MATH/Mrs. Parrinello
The new semester has led us into a
whole new realm of numbers… negatives.
Manipulating and computing with numbers is
still our main focus as we solve one step equations and inequalities
and even graph some of
the basic equations. The world of ratios and percents will
soon show up as students are able to convert between forms effortlessly. So many real
world applications to use here! The Honors
class is graphing linear equations, working
with ratios and percents and moving into probability of simple and compound events.
READING/Mrs. Jensen
Top Flight Reading!
The reading goal is for students to be able to apply skills and strategies
of a successful reader and read critically!

& Project Requirement Sheet. Students
may stay after school to type, if necessary,
until 4:00 PM, with a parent note of permission.
Extra credit is also due Friday, March

Remember, hard copies of all assignments are available to students in the

HEALTH & WELLNESS/Mr. Gossett
What the students be learning about
during the nine weeks: What Health & Wellness Is, Making Good Decisions, Self-Esteem,
and Friends & Family. In the gymnasium on
Mondays & Thursdays, the students will be
working on the following skills: Chasing,
Fleeing, & Dodging, Jumping & Landing, Throwing &
Catching, and Dribbling. Fridays are “Fitness
Fridays”, in which the students will be about the Health-Related Fitness
of Aerobic Fitness.
ART/Ms. Burns
During the sixth grade art class, students will be exploring a wide range of media
and techniques. We will be creating art with
an emphasis on self-expression and craftsmanship. Inspiring many of our projects will be
our research of ancient art from the Stone Age
through the Roman Empire. This will be a valuable opportunity for students to gain an appreciation for art in the world around us, as
well as refine their own artistic skills.
TECHNOLOGY/Mr. Essex
This course provides students with an
introduction to technology. It is intended that
the student will relate the content presented in
this class to the lessons of core classes as technology is the application of mathematic and
scientific principles. Students will explore various areas such as manufacturing, transportation,
construction, and communication through different projects. Students will cover course vocabulary that relates to overall curriculum and
specific projects as well.
Content presented is teacher led. Projects are
challenging hands on activities in which students must design or construct something that
solves a problem that is presented to them. Students will take an end of course assessment, and
a vocabulary post assessment covering material
presented over the nine weeks.
CHOIR/Mrs. Rewerts
The sixth grade choir class is delving
into music from around the world! We are exploring the cultures, influences, and styles that
make music special in different countries and
cultures. We are also beginning to work on theory, so students will be learning how to read
music and sight sing. Solfege will become a
new language for them as they explore the relationship between notes and how
we make songs.
BAND/Ms. Hewitt
We are over half way
through our band method book and will be starting solo and ensemble work soon! The students
choose to play a solo for the class, or work in a
small ensemble and play for the class. We have
also been working towards earning Pokemon!
We are divided into teams and earn team points
for practicing, doing well on playing quizzes,
and being prepared for class. We do tournament
Fridays in which we do a playing challenge with
someone on another team and earn points for
winning. We also earn points on Fridays for
wearing team colors! We will soon be starting
preparation for the middle school fine arts night
in May.
LIBRARY/Mrs. Fay
First, I need to let you know that starting Monday I will be rotating through the
schools in the district every Monday from 8:30
until 2:00. I will not be in the building on Mondays, 8:30 until 2:00. I will leave the library
dark and locked. (Except staff access through
back door.)
With a new Aide running the Media Center at
the High School, and Pam Allgood’s retirement at the end of the year, it is a good time
for me to get to know what is going on in the
other libraries in our district and help plan the
future of our programs in a coordinated fashion.
There will be inconveniences due to my absence but I hope you will deal with them,
keeping our larger goal in mind.
Secondly, the big announcement for last semester’s BOXTOP competition! Once again,
Mrs. Jensen’s PRIDE is the overall winner! There will be donuts and juice when Mr.
Nickoli gets that worked out with her. Unfortunately, Mrs. Jensen’s PRIDE is the only winner as no other PRIDE met the minimum requirement of raising $60 or more. We do appreciate all your efforts for this fundraiser but
this stipulation keeps us from spending too
much of our profit percentage on prizes. The
competition results are attached.
