OKC Memorial Marathon: Camille Herron shatters
women's marathon course record
Camille Herron wins Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon and sets a course record. It was also the
fastest time by a woman in an Oklahoma marathon.

Not only did Camille Herron win the OHahoma City Memorial Marathon Sunday, she
shattered the women's course record by nine minutes.
"I felt like I needed to get the women's record to keep it in the family," Herron said.
Herron, who just moved back to Oklahoma last summer, ran the z6.z miles in z:49:tg,
beating former University of Oklahoma All-American Catherine Lisle's record of
2:54:22 set in 2o1o.
Now both Herron and her husband own the OHahoma City Memorial Marathon course
records.
Herron's husband, Conor Holt, is a two-time champion of the race and set the men's
course record of z:zz:54 in his 2oo4 victory.
The couple left Oklahoma six years ago but moved back to OHahoma City last summer
when Holt accepted the position as cross country head coach at OHahoma City
University.
Ireland and former University of OHahoma runner, previously was on
coaching staffs at Oregon State and Purdue.

"My whole famrly grew up here so it means a lot to come back and win a marathon in
my home ciry," said the go-year-old Herron, who was running in the Oklahoma City
Memorial Marathon for the first time.
Herron's time Sunday also was the fastestby anywoman in an OHahoma marathon.
Her father and grandfather played basketball at Oklahoma State University.
"So I grew up as an athlete, playrng basketball, and just happened to find my niche
running when I was in junior high," she said.

Herron was a cross country state champion at Westmoore High School, but a series of
stress fracfures cut her collegiate career short at the University of Tulsa.

She had quit running but started training again in zoo5 and has won six marathons
since. Herron is coached by her husband and she represented the United States in the
Pan American games last fall.
Herron also ran a personal best marathon time of z hours and 37 minutes at the
Olympic trials this year. She has Olympic aspirations for zo16.
"This year it took z:26 to make the Olympic team," Holt said. "She is going to have to
improve about ro minutes in four years, but four years ago her best time was 2:46 so
she has improved nine minutes basically in four years. If we can stay on the same track,
you never know.
"If I can keep her healthy, I think she will be pretty good in four years."
