A Peek at Our Week:
We will continue making connections to our STEAM question, “What is the relationship
between the balance of order and chaos and how does it serve a purpose.

Phonics: Prefixes re-, pre-, un- and dis-. Please see the attached page for more information.

Writing: Students will continue the informational writing unit.

Reading: Students will identify key details to help identify the main idea and build an
understanding of the text.

Math: Students will solve two-step word problems using multiplication and division.

Phonics Skills
Prefixes re, pre, un and dis
A prefix is a small unit of meaning (morpheme) that is placed in front of a base
word or root word. It can change the meaning of the base word.
A base word is a word that can stand alone.
A root word cannot stand without a suffix, prefix or another root attached.
 The meaning of the prefix re: back or again.
Examples: rejoin, retell or reuse.
 The meaning of the prefix pre: before or earlier.
Examples: precook, preplan or pretest.
 The meaning of the prefix un: not or opposite.
Examples: unhappy, unlock or unpaid.
 The meaning of the prefix dis: not, absence of, apart.
Examples: dislike, dislocate or discomfort.
