rd 3 Grade News 11/7 – 11/11 Reminders There will be no school for students this Tuesday, November 8th. Permission Slips for the MTSU Basketball Game Field Trip will come home this week. They must be returned to school by 11/22/2016. A Peek at Our Week: We will continue making connections to our STEAM question, “What is the relationship between the balance of order and chaos and how does it serve a purpose. Phonics: Prefixes re-, pre-, un- and dis-. Please see the attached page for more information. Writing: Students will continue the informational writing unit. Reading: Students will identify key details to help identify the main idea and build an understanding of the text. Math: Students will solve two-step word problems using multiplication and division. All the fun is on November 17th! Phonics Skills Prefixes re, pre, un and dis A prefix is a small unit of meaning (morpheme) that is placed in front of a base word or root word. It can change the meaning of the base word. A base word is a word that can stand alone. A root word cannot stand without a suffix, prefix or another root attached. The meaning of the prefix re: back or again. Examples: rejoin, retell or reuse. The meaning of the prefix pre: before or earlier. Examples: precook, preplan or pretest. The meaning of the prefix un: not or opposite. Examples: unhappy, unlock or unpaid. The meaning of the prefix dis: not, absence of, apart. Examples: dislike, dislocate or discomfort.
