The government’s key guiding principle is that markets should be left to operate freely, believing that competition, productivity and investment will deliver reliable and cost-competitive energy to households and businesses. Margaret Sewell led the Taskforce that produced the White Paper. In her address to the AIE in Adelaide she will describe how the Australian Government will continue to lead work with the states and territories on a consistent national energy market that promotes consumer choice and encourages investment in energy resources development, guided by the principles set out in the White Paper. The format of this event will encourage participant interaction with the speaker. Ms Margaret Sewell was appointed Head of the Energy Division in March 2015. Before her appointment to the EWP Taskforce in November 2013 she was Head of Clean Energy and the Energy Efficiency Division in the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism, working closely with ARENA in developing policy for the renewables sector. Prior to the establishment of ARENA, Margaret was responsible for the Government’s Solar Flagships and Carbon Capture and Storage Flagships program. She was also General Manager of the Low Emissions Coal and CO2 Storage Branch. Earlier, Ms Sewell undertook roles involving mine safety, minerals and petroleum taxation and the cement industry.
