This contest for preschools and schools aims to encourage students' creativity and involvement in this major event. This simple activity is designed for children aged 3 to 5. Participants will make their own percussion instrument and learn how to use it to take part in the Prince Dung Beetle puppet show, which follows the workshop Focusing on catchy accordion music, toy theatre (aka: paper theatre) and silliness, Prince Dung Beetle is an interactive puppetry and storytelling show adapted from a long-lost Bavarian folk tale. Ideal for kids aged 3 to 5, we welcome people of all ages to join us for a story about young Barbara and her love for all things great and small. ©Maude Touchette THE GREAT RHYTHMOBILE ADVENTURE A CONCERT PRESENTED BY JEUNESSES MUSICALES CANADA ©Antoine Saito Sold Date and Time: Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. Language: French Duration: 40 minutes Cost: $3 The Rhythmobile - a super-powered, all-terrain, hybrid vehicle - has unfortunately run out of gas. Captain Kit Crash, the Rhythmobile’s clumsy driver, and his tinkering mechanic, Whiplash, have had to swerve off to the side of the road in a panic. To make things even more complicated, the technologically sophisticated 4X4 can’t start without the right kind of high rhythm-rated fuel. Time is running out. Before falling too far behind in the rally race, our two adventurers immediately begin searching for their precious fuel: rhythm. This theatrical performance features percussionists creating different rhythms using all sorts of everyday objects. This makes for extraordinary choreography involving balls, rackets, garbage cans, and other unexpected items. During the school year, the Stewart Hall Art Gallery offers free* guided tours of its series of exhibitions to Pointe-Claire preschool, elementary and high school students. Developed by qualified guides, and intended to demystify art and encourage dialogue, these tours educate students about exhibition themes, artists and the various techniques explored, placing the artworks in their larger context. In addition, each visit is followed by a creative workshop that is adapted to age group. Module Operandi February 19 to April 2, 2017 Main room Artists : Randall Anderson, Philippe Chabot, Guillaume La Brie, José Luis Torres, Sherry Walchuk, Tom Watson © Tom Watson, Crush and Burn. The construction set is made of prefabricated pieces that are assembled as one pleases or by following pre-established instructions and steps. The artists of this exhibition explore the notion of construction through different angles: systematization, destruction, unprecedented assembly or daydreaming. Themes covered during the tour and workshop: Construction through play, artistic installations, the use of unusual materials and threedimensional artworks. 7 Stewart Hall Art Gallery Field Recordings, Captations April 8 to May 28, 2017 Main room Artists: Jim Holyoak, Matt Shane and Nick Kuepfer Jim Holyoak and Matt Shane paint outdoors following a pictorial tradition that dates from the 18th century. Executed at Pender Island in British Columbia, in Quebec, and in Iceland, Norway, Sweden, India, and Austria, their paintings show a contemporary and mysterious fascination with the elements of Nature, renewing our experience of landscape. Sputnik From January 21 to February 12, 2017 A satellite gravitated around the Earth, leaving star dust in its path. As with the sowing of dreams and imagination, Louise Boisvert’s artworks are an invitation to turn our heart toward the sky and our eyes toward the infinite world of shapes and colours. Sputnik projects us into Louise Boisvert’s colourful universe. Guided by reflection on the relationship between man and space and new technologies, her artworks, both playful and sensitive, results in a search for balance between our emotions and reason. © Louise Boisvert, Blablabla, 2013.. Size of Ideas From February 18 to April 2, 2017 Vernissage: Sunday, February 19, 2017, from 1 to 5 p.m. How does an artwork take form? From the first sparkle to its public presentation, kids will learn about the creative process steps through the work of Randall Anderson. Being a father, educator and teacher himself, Randall Anderson is a multidisciplinary artist who is influenced by the world of childhood. Characterized by a focus placed on the process, which are both fun and educational, his artworks reflect the accuracy of his observations. © Randall Anderson The Continuity of Movement...Take 2 From April 8 to June 4, 2017 Vernissage: Sunday, April 9, 2017 In fall 2016, students from Pointe-Claire elementary schools discovered 17 artworks from their city’s permanent collection while visiting The Continuity of Movement exhibition. Afterwards, their dedicated teachers took part in the fun of adopting one of these artworks. For eight weeks, these kids learned to live daily with a piece of art. They became accustomed to it, they examined it from every angle, and they were inspired by it. Financed by The Friends of Stewart Hall Foundation, this program allows eligible daycares to apply for a 75% subsidy on the cost of transportation for an activity at Stewart Hall. To be eligible... • You must be a daycare, a CPE or a preschool program. It excludes kindergarten classes or daycare services which are part of the school system. • You must be located within the City of Pointe-Claire. • You must have a minimum of 15 kids participating in the outing. To receive subsidy: 1. Make a reservation for the activity of your choice and ask for financial assistance by placing a checkmark in the right box on the registration form. 2. Once we have confirmed your spot, you must make your own reservations with the transportation company of your choice and pay for the services in full. 3. Send us a copy of your invoice as soon as you receive it, along with an invoice with your letterhead addressed to The Friends of Stewart Hall to benefit from 75% cost subsidy. 4. From the moment we receive all your documents, you can expect to receive a cheque within 3 to 4 weeks. Please note that: • You may participate in as many activities as you want, but there is a maximum of one outing during the winter/spring 2017 season, for a total of two outings during the 2016-2017 school year. • The subsidy only applies for activities presented in this brochure, including the ones offered at the Stewart Hall Art Gallery. • It is recommended to reserve as early as possible as certain budget limitations may apply. 11
