ROMANS 12:3
For I say, through the
grace given unto me, to
every man that is
among you, not to think
of himself more highly
than he ought to think;
but to think soberly,
according as God hath
dealt to every man the
measure of faith.
ISAIAH 55:8
For My thoughts are
not your thoughts,
neither are your ways
My ways, saith the
LORD.
JEREMIAH 29:11
For I know the thoughts
that I think toward you,
saith
the
LORD,
thoughts of peace, and
not of evil, to give you
an expected end.
PSALM 62:5
My soul, wait thou only
upon God; for my
expectation is from
Him.
BARRIERS TO LEARNING THAT
GOD. IS. ENOUGH.
The Noah Webster 1828 dictionary defines a
barrier as “any obstruction; any thing which
confines, or which hinders approach, or attack.”
Other definitions or synonyms of “barrier” include
“anything that restrains or obstructs progress,” a
fence, a roadblock, difficulty, impediment,
stumbling block, a hurdle.
Just as we come across various barriers to the
progress in our physical life, so we come across
barriers of one type or another in our spiritual life.
It is imperative that we are aware of them and
remain diligent as well as watchful, because they
are real and can cause much damage to our
fellowship with God. Barriers keep us from fully
trusting Him. Barriers obstruct our knowledge of
Him and hinder our approach to Him.
LUKE 3:4—The voice of one crying in the wilderness.
Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make His paths
straight.
CHARLES SPURGEON—I would be attentive to the
Master’s proclamation, and give Him a road into my
heart, cast up by gracious operations, through the
desert of my nature. The four directions in Luke 3:5
must have my serious attention. Low and groveling
thoughts of God must be given up—doubting and
despairing must be removed; self-seeking and carnal
delights must be forsaken. Proud creature-sufficiency,
and boastful self-righteousness, must be leveled to
make a highway for the King of kings. Divine
fellowship is never vouchsafed to haughty, highminded
sinners. The Lord hath respect unto the lowly and
visits the contrite in heart, but the proud are an
abomination to Him. The wavering heart must have a
straight path of decision for God and holiness marked
out for it. Double-minded men are strangers to the
God of Truth. Stumbling blocks of sin must be
removed, and thorns and briers of rebellion must be
uprooted. May the Lord find in my heart a highway
made ready by His Grace, that He may make a
triumphal progress through the utmost bounds of my
soul from the beginning of this year even to the end of
it.
PSALM 119:37—Turn away mine eyes from upholding
vanity; and quicken thou me in Thy Way.
In the next two lessons of our Bible Study we will
examine four Barriers to learning that God is
Enough. It is important that we take an honest
evaluation of ourselves in order to realize how
these barriers cause obstacles and hindrances in
our walk with God.
We must be careful to guard our hearts and walk
circumspectly so that when we come upon these
barriers we are able to recognize them and deal
with them immediately.
CYNTHIA HEALD—When we find ourselves
imprisoned and disillusioned by overwhelming

circumstances, we find ourselves asking—
‘God are You really Who You say You are?
Are you really enough?’ Jesus provides
profound answers, and we must examine
them in order to deal with the unexpected
uncertainties of our lives.
CHARLES SPURGEON—The path to heaven
is beset with difficulties. The road is rough,
and we are weak. Only an Almighty Arm can
preserve us from these unseen foes, who are
seeking to destroy us. He is faithful that
promised, and He is able to keep us from
falling.
NANCY LEIGH DEMOSS—EL SHADDAI—
God Almighty—is the Mighty One Who
supplies, nourishes, and satisfies His people.
God Almighty, our All-Sufficient One…
delights for us to be at a place where we are
helpless to meet our own need and must rely
wholly on EL SHADDAI. He wants us where
we can discover that He Alone can—and
will—supply our needs.
It seems that our sermons and Sunday
school lessons at church have been themed
around serving others. It is an area of my life
which I am constantly needing AND wanting
to improve upon. Take a look at what Oswald
Chambers says was Paul's attitude in regards
to serving others in an effort to draw them to
Christ.
Barriers must be torn down. If not, we
will never walk in the Truth or live in the
Truth that God. Is. Enough.

I'm just plain selfish! I hate to admit it, but it is
true. And I think if we are being honest, most
of us have to agree with that statement — at
least a little bit.

I'm so busy with MY schedule, MY activities,
caring for MY family, planning for MY work,
taking care of MY house, doing MY stuff,
trying to pay MY bills, and even MY church
activities…

LADIES MEETING
Meeting begins at 7:00
Childcare will be available.
When you add my independent spirit to that
selfishness…it makes it doubly difficult to
recognize people's needs. I'm not sure that
makes sense…but I know what I mean and
you probably don't want or need to
know all of my character flaws!
