New Deal Relief Programs Project
Project Summary:
In this project you will with a partner and a
Chromebook complete a double-sided worksheet
and reflection about 2 different programs that FDR
and his administration created to help the working
class in the Great Depression. You will then
compare and contrast it to its modern day
equivalent, aka the program that has replaced it.
Additionally, you will judge the successes or failures
of both new and old programs, and predict the
future for the current program.

remain the focus of your inquiry.
• Does America learn from past lessons of history?
• What national conditions bring about similar historical events?
• How does the economic success or failure of America change the lives of American systems and individuals?
Research:
Working with your partner you will build upon what you learned last class (remember that table that you filled out) and
understand the conditions in the United States during the Great Depression.
• Identify the main points of FDR's economic policies
• Differentiate the successes and failures of FDR's plan.
• Compare and contrast current economic conditions today with those during the Great Depression
• Using the historic record, predict the potential success or failure of Obama's economic plan/program
Reflection:
Both partners will write a one page reflection about the following:
• The process (how you went about things)
• The way to handle group/partner dynamics (How did you and your partner work together?)
• The choices made in the evaluation process (how did you choose which programs to do?)
• The evolving understanding of the interaction between business and the American government.
• Answer all 3 of the essential questions
• Include at least 2 sources that you used for each set of programs (so at least 4 total)
A Word of Advice:
Remember that you have one class period to complete this activity; it is important that you stay on task and focused
with your partner to be able to complete this assignment. I am available for help if you need it! The most challenging
aspect of this assignment will be figuring out what program exists now instead of the one created in the New Deal. Do
not get lost spinning in circles on the internet, ask for help!
