Message From Principal,
‘May our lives and the lives of all beings be
pervaded with goodness. This is Amma’s prayer
on this occasion. May the divine power to effect
positive change – both in ourselves and in the
world – awaken in Amma’s children. Amma’s
prayer is that this New Year may lead to the birth
of a new individual and a new society’- Amma
Happy New Year to all! January is always about
fresh beginnings and positive changes. Let us try
to fulfil Amma’s New Year prayer and look at all
the possibilities that exist for our children here at
Amrita Vidyalayam and in their future.
3 amazing things you didn't know about your
computer
1. Bits, Bytes, and Size
Next time you complain about the pitiful memory
capacity of your old 8GB iPod Touch, it is worth
Using NASA's Kepler Space Telescope, astronomers
have discovered the first Earth-size planet orbiting a
star in the "habitable zone" - the range of distance
from a star where liquid water might pool on the
surface of an orbiting planet. The discovery of Kepler186f confirms that planets the size of the Earth exist in
the habitable zone of stars other than our sun.
While planets have previously been found in the
habitable zone, they are all at least 40 percent larger in
size than Earth and understanding their makeup is
challenging. Kepler-186f is more reminiscent of Earth.

2. Everything you see or hear on the internet is
actually on your computer
All your computer whiz friends probably delight
in telling you how having a 'library' of videos is
so 2008, that no-one torrents any more, it's all
Netflix and iPlayer and 'The Cloud', whatever
that means.
3. The distance data travels
Your request has travelled from your computer,
through a local Wi-Fi router or a modem, up to a
local data centre, from there onwards, all the way
to Virginia, and back again - in around 0.1 of a
second, depending on how good your internet
connection is.

Story of the Month
Betty Botter
One day, Betty Botter wanted to bake a cake. She
bought some cheap butter to bake it. But something
was wrong with the butter.
“This butter is bitter," said Betty Botter as she
tasted the butter.
“If I put it in my cake batter, it will make the batter
bitter. But, if I put a bit of better butter, that would
make my batter better."
So, she went off to buy better butter than her bitter
butter. She mixed a bit of better butter into her cake
batter. She tasted the batter and was happy that the
batter was not bitter.
She adopted the best way to solve the problem,
because there will always be one.
Moral:
If you have a problem, always think of the best way
to solve it

National Youth Day: Swami
Vivekananda’s message to Youth
Swami Vivekananda was one of the tallest
personalities the world has ever seen in the last
few centuries. He was a monk, a patriot, an
excellent orator, and a lifelong Karmayogi, who
dedicated each and every second of his adult
life for the sake of his country, its people, and
Sanatana Dharma.
His life’s mission was to see India and its
people rise and reclaim its past glory. His work
aimed at uplifting the poor and establishing
Dharma. His call for action, his call for strength
and renouncement of weakness, not only laid
the foundation for India’s freedom struggle, but
also showed the path which Indians must travel
to attain progress and well-being.
Today, January 12, is the 153rd birth anniversary
of Swami Vivekananda, and the whole country
rightly celebrates it as National Youth India.
Swami Vivekananda firmly believed that the
nation’s youth holds the key for solving the
many problems facing India. He repeatedly
called for youths to awaken, arise, and work for
the nation and its people.
Message: “I have faith in my country,
especially in the youth of my country. My hope
is in you. With an immense amount of feeling
and enthusiasm in the blood will come heroes
who will march from one corner of the earth to
the other, preaching and teaching the eternal
spiritual truths of our forefathers.”
