Dear National Council Employee, One of my most important duties is to ensure that we have the best possible workplace—after all, we are the Boy Scouts of America and we should set a positive example. Every one of us, regardless of position, shares in the responsibility for maintaining a positive environment, and we can work together to do this. Your input is essential to ensure that we maintain a positive and productive workplace, which is why we have an open‐door policy that allows employees and managers to discuss workplace issues and, we hope, resolve them in a constructive way. Additionally, several years ago we installed an anonymous hotline reporting system with EthicsPoint to enhance communication and empower you whenever you have a concern regarding safety, ethics, or security. EthicsPoint allows you the opportunity to submit your question or concern for investigation, resolution, and appropriate action. This system goes beyond our open‐door policy and was created to allow the reporting of actions that— if substantiated—would be violations of the BSA Code of Conduct and/or Conflicts of Interest policy. EthicsPoint manages the reporting system, and they have gone to great lengths to ensure that it is completely confidential, while still providing for communication between the reporter and the administrators. The EthicsPoint system enhances our open door policy, it does not replace it. In fact, the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America prefers that human resource issues be handled at the personal level; however, we realize that at times and for various reasons an employee may wish to remain anonymous but still report an ethics concern. It is because of our commitment to uphold the highest ethical standard and protect the integrity of the Boy Scouts of America that we have teamed up with EthicsPoint. I know that you join me in this commitment, and you have my assurance that all reports will be reviewed and responded to appropriately, and that your involvement will remain confidential unless you choose otherwise. Yours in Scouting, Robert J. Mazzuca Chief Scout Executive
