October Artist-in-Residence: Ann Wrzosek-Manor Ann makes art because it makes her heart sing! And her heart wants to sing all day long. Her favorite media are clay and photography, though she also enjoys painting, mosaic, earth art and others, too! Ann teaches K-5 art at Southview Elementary in Chippewa Falls during the school year. She teaches clay, children’s art and various other evening classes in the summer at her home studio (meadowsongstudios.com) with her sidekick Koko the umbrella cockatoo. Ann is now working on some new pottery ideas for an art show in Minneapolis next summer! Pottery Class! Join November’s Artist-in-Residence, Ann Wrzosek-Manor, and sculpt your own holiday ornament out of clay. She’ll even take it to the kiln and fire it for you! This program is FREE, but each session is limited to the first 15 students. Sign-up and tickets will be available at the Museum’s front desk. Mommy Mingle: Birds n’ the Bees Enjoy free coffee & breakfast and meet other mommies the 3rd Wednesday of every month. Bring little ones for awesome playtime or take advantage of free childcare! Daddies, nannies and caretakers welcome, too. This month, visit with therapist April Becker to find out exactly how to have “the talk” with your kids at the right times and in ageappropriate ways. Free with membership or admission. After Dark: 90s Party! Hey grown-ups, are you going postal over political campaigns? Get ready to dust off the super Nintendo, load up on pokeballs and dig out those Lisa Frank folders for a totally tubular throwback! Chill out max and relax all cool at the Children’s Museum of Eau Claire for this grown-ups-only event featuring beer and wine, pizza bar, Nintendo tournament, battle of the boy bands, 90s trivia, live science shows and more! Tickets are $25 per person or 2 for $45. Photo IDs will be checked at the door. Buy tickets at www.ChildrensMuseumEC.com. Super Small Science Clay Studio: Rice Cake Tubs Nyob Zoo (Neeyaw zhong) friends! To prepare for the New Year celebration, Hmong families gather together to make rice cakes, a colorful dessert! It takes two people to pound and pound the rice until it forms the cakes. During this program, kids will make tiny rice cake tubs, and two tiny rice hammers so that you are ready for the New Year’s celebration! Create a Silver Hmong Necklace! Nyob Zoo (Neeyaw zhong) friends! The New Year is the only celebration in the Hmong culture and is a time for friends and family to gather together. (P.S. The Hmong New Year will be celebrated this weekend at the Indoor Sports Center where anyone is welcome) Everyone dresses up, many in traditional Hmong clothing. Join us to make one part of that clothing— a special silver necklace worn by males and females of all ages! Hmong Rice Pounder Making Nyob Zoo (Neeyaw zhong) friends! Are you Hmong at heart? The Hmong people that live in the US today originally lived as farmers in the mountains of Laos and grew lots of rice! During this program, kids can make their own rice pounder, a special tool that pounded rice to take off the outside coat and turn it into flour! Make a Hmong Money Belt Nyob Zoo (Neeyaw zhong) friends! Our Hmong friends are known for their amazing embroidery skills! From story cloths to traditional clothing pieces, their work is colorful and dazzling! One piece of traditional clothing is called a money belt because there are coins hanging from the bottom. During this program, kids can create a design and add silver coins for their own money belt! Attention all preschool scientists! Do you like to mix and squish, stir and pour, and be amazed? If so, then don’t miss out on Super Small Science, a hands-on science program with our very own Dr. Labcoat! This program is FREE for kids ages 1-5 and grown-ups. Paint-Your-Own Face Station Open every Thursday, visit this station to transform yourselves into creatures, animals, characters and more! Parachute Playtime Kids ages 1-5 and grown-ups, come play with our GIANT parachute every Friday! Move, groove, sing and dance as we play games, get our hearts pumping and have a blast!
