PRESS RELEASE
70th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy
From 5 to 7 June 2014, Normandy will be celebrating the 70th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of
Normandy .
Specific traffic restrictions will be taken during those commemorations for the vehicles travelling to, or
transiting by the Calvados department.
I - A Regulated Traffic Zone (RTZ) in the Calvados department strictly reserved to local residents, their
families and professionals taking a vehicle sticker will become effective on Friday 6 June from 6 am to 6 pm.
The traffic of all vehicles inside the RTZ will be prohibited on the following roads :

The Caen-Bayeux-Carentan route (N13 in both directions)

Bayeux to Carentan direction closed from 6 am to 2.30 pm, between Bayeux (interchange n° 38
la Madeleine) and Carentan.
The Caen-Ouistreham route (D514 – D515)

Caen to Bayeux direction closed from 6 am to 6 pm, between Caen (interchange n° 8 Bessin)
and Bayeux (interchange n° 38 la Madeleine) ;
Caen (interchange n° 3 porte d’Angleterre) to Ouistreham direction closed from 6 am to 6 pm ;
Ouistreham to Caen (interchange n° 3 porte d’Angleterre) direction closed from 9.30 am to 6 pm
(diversion via the D60 and D79).
The Caen northern bypass (N814 – périphérique Nord) ;

from interchange n° 9 porte de Bretagne to interchange n° 1 porte de Paris, the traffic will
be prohibited in both directions from 10 am to 6 pm.
Other roads will be temporarily closed on the basis of ceremony and convoy timetables.
Advices :
For people travelling to or back from the west of France, transiting by the Calvados department :
avoid the Caen southern bypass (périphérique Sud) and prefer the A28 (from A13) to Alençon, Le
Mans, then Rennes in both directions.
II – Heavy goods vehicles traffic will be prohibited on Friday 6 June, from 6 am to 8 pm, on the whole
highway and road network of the Calvados department, and also on the local routes :

The A13 in the Eure department (27) from the Beuzeville interchange ;
The N1029 Pont de Normandie in the Seine-Maritime department (76) ;
The A88 in the Orne department (61) from the junction with the A28 ;
The A84 in the Manche department (50) from the junction with the N174 (interchange Guilberville) ;
The N13 in the Manche department (50) from the junction with the N174 (interchange Carentan).
For the heavy goods vehicles transiting by the west of France, a diversion route « wide mesh » will be set up
on the A28 in both directions from the junction with the A13 (Bourg-Achard) on the way to Alençon and Le
Mans, then the A81 and N157 to Rennes.
Due to the impact of the ceremonies of the 70th anniversary of D-Day, added with the significant traffic flow
expected for the Whitsun week-end, and the start of the Figaro sailing race on 8 June in Deauville, those
traffic measures compulsories on 6 June, will be recommended on 5, 7 and 8 June.
