the opening volley of the Cold War.

James Holmes Armstead – Dr. Ralph Bunche
The US foreign policy of “Containment” and its effect on US policies towards Europe, Africa,
Latin America, Asia, and various strategic political and military alliances including NATO, CENTO,
and SEATO.
Wednesday, June 22

An overview of Pete Seeger’s life and music from his activist work dealing with civil rights, the
Vietnam War, Anti-Nuke and ecological work with the sloop Clearwater, which helped clean up
the Hudson River.
Saturday, June 25
10:00 am The Family of Man – Social Documentary through Photography
Ilene Evans - Eslanda Robeson
The photographic works of Edward Steichen and Lewis Hines and Milton Rogovin use
photography as an instrument of global social reform.
2:00 pm Aliens, Red Scares, and ISIS: America in Times of Fear
Doug Mishler - Nikita Khruschev
How fears over events -- from the British returning in 1799, through World and Cold Wars, to 911 and terrorism today -- have often caused Americans to set aside our ideals in the name of
“security.”
