Addiction Workers Training Project
Reaches Its 10th Anniversary
The Addiction Workers
Training Project has
proved to be a great
success. This project
has now reached a
huge milestone hitting
its 10th anniversary.
The project aims to
support and train
individuals who have
previously had a
problem with drug or
alcohol misuse. It also
helps to prepare
people for
employment in the
social care field.
Fife Alcohol and
Drugs Partnership
have felt that this has
been a great project
to invest in. Whilst
giving individuals the
opportunity to gain
qualifications, it has
also given the
individuals
experience to then
progress into paid
employment.

FIRST Annual General Meeting
Fife Intensive
Rehabilitation and
Substance Misuse
Team (FIRST) held their
Annual General
Meeting at the Main
Office base in
Kirkcaldy earlier in
June.
A drumming display
courtesy of the Men’s
Group opened the
event and was
followed by four
speakers from FIRST,
all of whom are in
recovery from their
substance misuse.
Two of these clients
have recently
completed a 26 week
period in residential
rehabilitation at
Phoenix Futures in
Glasgow.
A poignant moment
of the afternoon was
a speech given by
April Adam, Service
Manager who
delivered a eulogy for
Lena Graham,
Chairperson of FIRST
from its inception in
2003 until her untimely
death in December
2014. FIRST has a
memorial bench in
their garden for Lena
and this was available
for all to see at the
AGM.
The AGM was
rounded off with a
Guitar demonstration,
also by the Men’s
Group. Further
Information about
FIRST can be found at
www.firstforfife.co.uk
or by telephoning

NEW A.D.A.M Website Launched
A new website has
recently been
launched called
A.D.A.M, A.D.A.M
stands for Another’s
Drinking Affects Me.
The website is aimed
at helping young
people affected by
someone else’s
alcohol use. The
website has been
developed by
Alcohol Focus
Scotland, to assist
young people to seek
advice and help. The
target audience is
high school age
children from 11 to 16
years of age. It is
estimated 51,000
children and young
people in Scotland
are affected by a
parent who has an
alcohol problem.
A.D.A.M aims to help
these young people
learn to cope and
know how to seek
help, through using
animated characters
who tell someone
else’s real life story.
